To the manager or owner, unfortunately putting a bad review solely based on your employee. His name is Roy, he is bald, and more oversized than an oversized vehicle.

I hope this encourages you to uphold higher standards when hiring at your location because employees are the representation of your establishment.

For context, the restaurant was empty. Prior to coming to the restaurant we called and confirmed if pizza was available and on the menu. The lady on the phone told us yes.

Roy was eager not to serve our table as soon as we were seated. When asked if there was pizza as a menu item. He said we usually have pizza but the guy is not here. He did not at any point bother to ask if we would like anything to drink. He first says there is no rush and to take our time but conversely returns within 2 minutes asking if we are ready to order.

My spouse gave his order. Instead of asking me directly what I would like he asks my spouse "what is she getting". The entire time he refused to give me eye contact, speak to me directly, and would only engage with my husband. His body language indicates that he either has an issue with females or he is plain racist.

Upon explaining to him that we are vegetarian and that the menu is limited. He suggests the veggie pasta. I explained we got that yesterday and was hoping for something else.

I noticed that the kids menu had vegetarian options. I said I will just order the alfredo pasta off the kids menu and my son will get the grilled cheese.

Then Roy stated you cannot order off the kids menu. Okay accepted that I cannot order off the kids menu. But to say it so rudely? I can guarantee all of us have the capability to show some level of customer service. Could you not say "I apologize, you cannot order off the kids menu" or a well-trained waiter would find a work around by saying something like "I apologize typically adults cannot order kids menu items but let me check with my manager or maybe I can ask the chef or kitchen to make you an adult entree of alfredo pasta"

And to say we cannot order kids menu item when we clearly have a child with us. Do you mean to say if my kid is hungry he cannot order two items off the kids menu? This is the first restaurant I have encountered that is placing age requirements on ordering off the kids menu. Are they going to start carding people for the kids menu? I am paying the price and proportion listed so what is the harm? This waiter just wanted to give me a hard time.

He finally allows me to order the kids Alfredo pasta. After I explicitly mentioned that I am vegetarian, he asks me if I want chicken or shrimp on my pasta. Clearly he is not fit to be a waiter because he lacks listening skills.

The kids menu clearly states it comes with a drink. He didn't even bother to ask us about the drinks. We had to bring it up to him when he came with our food and he goes "I guess yea if your son wants a drink". Racist Roy you need serious re-training!

Upon setting my pasta down, he goes I cannot give you a drink with this order because you are not supposed to order the kids menu. Again I am paying the price listed and the order should come with whatever it states side and drink.

Because he kept repeating that I was not allowed this precious alfredo pasta, which made me feel so uncomfortable, I told him to please take it back. He proudly took the plate. Not once he asked if everything was ok and if we needed anything else. He was incapable of letting me as a female to look over the check and incapable of printing a receipt.

Roy you are racist. The way you carry yourself and your job displays your socioeconomic and educational status. I pity that you are incapable of succeeding at being a waiter. National parks will have all types of race, ethnicities, and religion. Your body language speaks volumes.

Roy simmer in the fact that I am a female, colored, minority BORN and RAISED in the USA with a Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate degree and own more property than you have seen and earn more dollars than you will ever see in your sad...

Update: Went back for lunch and got the kid with the man bun... Probably the most annoying server I've encountered. Very rude in general conversation. Wanted to share all his stories, which we're not interesting at all, but had no time for answering questions. Just a bizarre lunch experience all together...

The gentleman that served us at 1st lunch (Dustin I believe) was a delight, very friendly and attentive. Full of information. The gal in the evening (Catherine I believe) was very sweet and excited to help us. Both times the food was great!

These two times carried the 3 stars... The two old bitties that run the breakfast earned this place less than zero stars. They weren't helpful, they were snarky and mean and refused to deviate from the every other section seared routine they concocted. Even when a woman that could barely walk asked to be set closer to the buffet they refused and actually told her it was because of nothing less than "it's not that sections turn"... Unbelievable. Then, when we went to pay with cash the bill was $20.48. I handed her $21.00. I was told "I don't have change for that." Nowhere does it say credit card only... What if I only had a $50 dollar bill would my less than great buffet have been $50!?!

Long story long... I'd do lunch or dinner here again, is never do the breakfast buffet again. Based solely off the two ladies working in...

Visited with the wife on April 24. We were visiting from Florida and didn't have much time before sundown to explore, so I ordered a flat iron steak from Taylor M and took it to go. My wife diced up the steak and helped feed me while I hightailed it down to Badwater, as Taylor suggested I do, and I must say it was one of the BEST steaks I've ever had!! Even the broccolini and potatoes were amazing. Perfectly seasoned and savory, it unleashed a ton of endorphins while I took in the vast desert scenery while driving. Now i plan to try to recreate this steak back at home, but i doubt I'll come close. I would gladly travel 2000 miles again just to experience that amazing moment in time when the first bite entered my mouth. Absolutely divine, just like the scenery. Thank you Taylor, and the chef, and Toll Road!! And Stovepipe Wells was a very friendly, hospitable and convenient town to visit. Now one of my favorite places on earth! Go there, you WON'T be...

Dec 27 2024-Jan 5 2025 We stayed at Stove pipe for 9 days. We were a bit concerned about having breakfast and dinner every single day. Our previous National park dining experience had been courtesy Delaware north at Sequoia and Kings canyon. The food served there was marginal at best. Our expectations at Toll road were totally exceeded. The food was great as was the service. We ate all our breakfasts there, a buffet. A wide verity of well-prepared food starting at 7am. We ate all but 2 dinners there. Not a ton of choices, but all excellently prepared. Way better than our previous experiences and way better than the dinner buffet at Furnace creek. All of our servers were wonderful, cheerful and friendly. A couple of them stand out though, Bobby for breakfast (he agreed to my using his name), "D" at breakfast and "V" at diner. I did not ask them about using their full names. You can't go wrong staying or dining with the Powder company based on our experience here.

I usually don't write negative reviews, but I had to. I visited this restaurant years ago. From what I remember, it was decent. We went for dinner after a very long day in the park. All they had in the menu was the buffet for 24.99. There was nothing else. It was an Asian buffet with very little variety, microwave quality frozen food, and the presentation left a lot to be desired. The service was also poor with finished foods not restocked unless you tell them to. The lighting was dim and gave it a rundown and dilapidated vibe. I would not recommend this place unless you are starving. It's overpriced by at least double.
