The American south has many failings, but few in the culinary line. It is no surprise that fried chicken, a Southern staple, has risen to such great prominence across the country. KFC, Popeye's, Raising Cane's, Chick-Fil-A, and the lesser-known(but I would argue more delectable) Layne's Chicken Fingers have become household names. Less-specialized national chains have adapted, improving their own menu offerings in the hopes of capturing the national market. Most meat-eating Americans and visitors to these shores have enjoyed meals from these restaurants, sometimes admittedly more often than is good for us, but enjoyed them just the same.
Having partaken of all these restaurants(and more), I can say with certainty that Hot Chix, a new, locally owned restaurant, is the best of them. I work at Lamar University, and my usual route takes me down Washington Boulevard twice every day, Monday to Friday. I witnessed the transformation of this location from an abandoned Dairy Queen franchise into a new concept over the course of the last eight months or so, and was quite pleased to hear they were open thanks to BeaumontFoodie on YouTube.
This evening, my wife and I were peckish, and after spending most of the day a trifle unwell, sought to have a fine meal without spending much money. Having watched the BeaumontFoodie review the previous night, and trusting that gentleman's opinion, I suggested Hot Chix. I was quite pleased to see that they were open on Saturday evenings.
We ordered two three-finger meals, with drinks and a milkshake for something less than $25 US. This in and of itself is worthy of praise, as many of their competing restaurants serve significantly less chicken(as I would find out) for a comparable price. We got it to go, and tucked in shortly after returning home.
I speak honestly when I say that these are no mere chicken fingers, as you might get at a competing restaurant. They are gargantuan. Easily each is one half of a chicken breast, battered, fried, and seasoned. I appreciate that they allow those of us with weaker constitutions to select a less spicy blend of their dry rub. I got the mild, my wife the medium.
The chicken is tender, juicy, and flavorful. The batter crispy, a little crunchy, but the seasoning is where Hot Chix truly stands out. The mild does produce a little heat, to be sure, but not overly so. The medium my wife ranked as being quite edible, and indicated that she plans to order the hot at her next trip. Served with well-seasoned French fries, slice of Texas toast and some pickles, the meal is too much for me to eat in a single sitting. My wife, who comes from a large family, suggested that three children might successfully enjoy only a single three-finger basket and find themselves well-fed.
What I appreciate most is that this restaurant is certified halal, meaning that those of different religious persuasions---not just Muslims but Jewish persons as well---could eat there without any concern of breaking their faith's adherence to dietary restrictions. As a person with close relationships to both faith communities in Beaumont, finding food that is halal or kosher is no easy task, and I am glad to say that there is another restaurant I can recommend my friends when they come to visit.
All told, Hot Chix has now firmly displaced competitors such as Layne's and Raising Cane's in our household. We will most certainly make return trips when our desire for delicious, made to order fired chicken makes an appearance, and are pleased to support a local business in a neighborhood I hold in...
Read moreI’d take a picture of my meal, but it was so good it’s already gone! I got the tender meal and was not let down. Honestly, it reminded me of Raising Cane’s — except better. The tenders were perfectly juicy and cooked just right. I had the original flavor this time, but I’ll definitely be back to try the spicy ones. And don’t forget to order the Hot Chix signature sauce — easily one of the best fry sauces I’ve ever had.
The prices might look a little spendy at first, but for the quality and portion size, it’s totally worth it. Honestly, you’d spend about the same at a gas station deli for dry chicken, and this blows that away.
The employees and management were super polite and gave 10/10 service. And now for what matters almost as much as the food — the cleanliness. This place is spotless. They’ve got a 100 inspection grade, and it shows. I’m pretty picky about where I eat, but they keep this place clean and comfortable....
Read more"I’ve been to Hot Chix a couple of times now, It is halal.and each visit has been fantastic! The chicken is always cooked to perfection—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. I’ve tried both the medium and hot spice levels, and they’ve nailed it every time. The heat doesn’t overpower the flavor, which is a big plus for me.
The portions are huge, so it’s great value for the price. The fries are always fresh, and the sauce is so addictive—I find myself craving it even after I leave.
The staff is super friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. Hot Chix has quickly become one of my go-to spots for a satisfying meal. If you’re into flavorful, spicy chicken, you need to check...
