Trattoria Fondi at the Grand at Bedford Village Inn — Restaurant in Bedford

A bit tricky to find as the BVI property is massive, this cozy little Italian restaurant is tucked away, just off the main lobby of the inn itself. It's relatively new and it's Christmas season so it was very busy and when we arrived for our 6:45 reservation we were told that our table was not ready as the previous party was lingering. The hostess was beyond accommodating and apologetic & even gave us a round of drinks on the house as we waited even though we were fine and waiting patiently. The menu is small but offers some delicious and innovative dishes. Being a traditionalist, I ordered housemade pasta and meatballs which came out with shrimp instead of meatballs & honestly I wouldn't even have sent it back if I didn't have an aversion to seafood. I kindly sent it back and it was returned (an entirely new dish) relatively quickly and, on the house as well (it was my birthday and the server felt awful even though I'm sure it was just an innocent mistake). Good menu and wine selection. Food was pretty decent. Although the pizza was cooked perfectly under no circumstances should jalapeño peppers ever be paired with salami when the pizza is listed as a spicy salami pizza. The combination was a terrible idea. Just get spicy salami. I had high hopes for the carbonara since the menu listed it as being made with guanciale but yet it still appeared to be made with cream or something the taste was not right. Beware the special events! We checked the website for the opening hours (5pm), and called to inquire about reservations for a particular date. I was told they don’t take reservations. We arrived at 5:25 pm and were told they would be opening shortly. After 20 additional minutes of being ignored by staff walking right by us, we were informed the restaurant was closed for a special event.
