King's Wok — Restaurant in Beecher

Picked up take out from here b/c we had yet to pitch tents and get a fire going at Goodenow Forest Preserve. Kids were hungry after a long drive, and I could feel a catastrophe potentially brewing. We called in an order, got multiple beef and chicken dishes, and were all pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste (orange chicken, some other chicken with broccoli, and mongolian beef). The portion sizes and total price were shocking—absolutely huge* and a total steal compared to prices in the city. This isn't going to win some James Beard awards nor is it better than your favorite place in China town, but for what it is (in the middle of nowhere, no less—sorry Beecher folk), it was fantastic. It's likely we'll go camping at Goodenow again, and when we do, picking up carry-out from here for the first night's dinner might just become a new silly tradition for us. *seriously, the 3 dishes weighed like 10+ lbs it was absolutely bananas. We have been going to this restaurant for many many years living in Beecher. There was a management shift of some sort about a year ago and I was disappointed as they got rid of a lot of the tofu dishes they had. Also, some of the other dishes just tasted different, not bad but to us not as good as the original owners. Tonight we decided to try the sushi as we really like sushi and prior management did not offer that. We were disappointed they did not have any edamame or the house salad available. But the rolls that we did get were pretty good. We were surprised they actually had soy paper available, and that they had tofu skins, which are really good. We started coming here years ago since the one in momence went downhill. This last visit was different. No greeting when we walked in. Seemed like the person didn't want to be there. The food has always been good, but not this time. The Szechuan chicken was bland, no seasoning. Tasted boiled. The sauce was the same. Watery with little to no flavor or spice. The teriyaki beef was very good. Just need more sauce. . I had to pan fry everything and add spice to get any flavor. Please do better. We drive extra to come to...
