I used to love this place… As an east sider local I loved seeing them win awards in the St Louis area… Just went here today after Art on the Square 2025 in Downtown Belleville… Thinking it would be nice to carry out some dinner and head back home to Shiloh… There prices have gone up tremendously… Assuming because of the awards… Staff is still good… However the quality of Brisket for $30 a pound?… Well see the pics for yourself and perhaps if you like a giant % of fat for your $30 per pound brisket then you’ll love it!… Our family doesn’t however and most people I know don’t… So I won’t go back there probably for many years… They have gotten arrogant with prices and quality has gone way down… Definitely don’t deserve any more awards with this crap and I hope they find a necessary dose of realty from shitting on the people that supported them… I ordered a pound of Beef Brisket.. and a pulled pork plate (Which was also fatty.. just not as) with sides of Brussel sprouts and a house salad… had a Busch Light while I was waiting for carry out… I tipped $7 on the order bringing the total to almost $70… I don’t mind paying this much for good food… However having to rummage though fat to find good food is not worth it in my opinion… There are other places that didn’t win awards that probably need the business since they charge much less for much better quality…
My wife called and they said perhaps I could come tomorrow and they would reimburse me… Nope!… You don’t get to charge these prices… ruin someone’s dinner and get second chances… The assumption is… When you charge what you charge and have the recognition that you do… That my meal will be worth it already having the trust in a higher end place… knowing the price going in… Beast should lose the “All Killer No Filler” slogan… This amount of fat I would be considered filler at $30 a pound…
I feel like I paid about $60 a pound for the edible meat parts my wife and I could eat… I don’t mind a reasonable or small amount of fat… It’s BBQ.. but when it’s almost half?…
Ok I’m done venting…. I hope this review helps people spend their hard earned dollars elsewhere for a while… and I hope Beast gets back to doing a good job and EARNING the dollars… Currently out of sync with reality and almost like scamming people at this point

Read moreI'm gonna blaspheme on the skyrocketing St Louis BBQ market but this place may be better than anything across the river. It's situated in an old Hy-Ho restaurant so the seating is joy abundant but definitely adequate. You walk in and order on the left side of the restaurant and we usually go sit on the right side. There have been some recent menu changes, but I guarantee everyone can find something to eat.
The beer selection is ample and represents both Missouri and Illinois very well with focus on the local breweries. My only complaint is that the beer selection is a bit ramshackle and there are no prices on that menu. This could be easily fixed though and doesn't take away from the experience one bit. And the experience is this incredible bar-b-que that words make it hard to describe.
I instantly became engrossed in my pork steak, which literally needs no knife, that melted in my mouth. Each bite was somehow better than the last and the only interruption was to scarf down some the best brussel sprouts I've ever had. Alternating between the two and sips from a great beer made the meal more than the sum of its parts.
I have had Beast several times and see no signs of that stopping anytime soon. As long as they keep up the strong effort and love of their craft, I will be a...
Read moreMy last two encounters here have been very disappointing, but most recently today was the last straw. Rewind: After spending $45 (Ribtips/Snoot combo plates with 2sides) in food I was given what was obviously the “about to close” food. Meaning the ribtips were dry & some of the snoot pieces were chewy. Ok…things happen, right? I call the next morning at opening spoke to a Mgr who advised me I could get a refund ask for Brandon or Sophie. I go get my refund by Sophie (was the friendly face) who was apologetic & she gave me my money back plus a $30 gift card for the inconvenience. TODAY I go back only to find out the “30.00 gift card” only had $25.00 on there. As the gentleman who checked me out gave me my change I noticed it was lesser than what I had calculated so I asked how much was the food again & how much was on the Gift card? The gentleman then asked if I had a receipt for the gift card as if I purchased it, but in actuality it was given by Sophie & I told him that. I then told him don’t worry about it because from the way he was lookin he didn’t care to find out or even look at the Giftcard envelope that had $30 written on the corner. Mind blown was an understatement. I’ll spend my money where the quality of food matters to the staff/owner as well as...
