I had a really wonderful experience here about two weeks ago and just realized I forgot to review them, so here we are. đ
My friends and I came in during the morning rush and were still seated immediately at the back of the restaurant. It was well lit, clean, and everyone was friendly.
I got the Billâs Senior Plate, one of my friends got a plain waffle and a hot chocolate, and my other friend got the Teenagerâs Plate. Everything was great- hot food, nothing soggy or overly sweet. The sausages in particular were on the smaller side- this definitely isnât a place where youâll be taking home leftovers.
I didnât get a chance to take a photo but the hot chocolate my friend ordered had a swirl of whipped cream as tall as the mug itself which made them laugh.
Iâve included photos of my food in this review, along with photos of the current menu if youâd like to take a look at all the options plus pricing.
I would consider this restaurant moderately mobility aid accessible- I left my rollator in my car today because I was too tired to lift it out of the trunk, but Iâm not sure how much space I wouldâve had. During a quieter part of the day when chairs are mainly pushed in, I think it would have been fine. There are no stairs to enter the restaurant.
For parking: About a dozen spots shared between Pancake Corral and some adjacent businesses. There was a disabled parking spot too.
In terms of customer service:
Our server was Irlanda and she was incredibly attentive to all her tables (that I could see). She made sure we all had water, coffee, condiments, etc. During a lull in the breakfast rush, we got to chatting a little bit and when I mentioned that I used to work food service and that I wasnât a huge fan of doing it, she started talking about how much she loves this place.
Lots of great things to say about management, team morale, and how the schedule is set up. As someone whoâs worked food service (and still works customer service), it made me really happy to see someone in the same profession be so happy about where theyâre at.
The team is really what makes or breaks a place, and it seems like Irlanda is gonna be there for a long time. Kudos to all of you for making the restaurant such a good experience for...
Read moreThree Dollars for No Butter, No Respect for Customers
If I may askâsince when did not wanting butter and powdered sugar on a pancake become a luxury worth $3? Thatâs not a customization; itâs subtraction. Are your kitchen instructions printed in gold ink?
But letâs move on to something more important than overpriced omissionsâbasic human respect. Every weekend, without fail, I order from your restaurant. And every weekend, without fail, I walk in and am greeted not with a âhello,â not with a âwelcome,â but with, âAre you a driver?â Itâs honestly heartwarming to see how committed your staff are to not acknowledging their regular customers. Even when I show the order, my name, the order screen, and possibly my dental recordsâI still get the full interrogation and a stare-down like Iâm auditioning for a role in Oceanâs Eleven.
I was told this is because youâve had issues giving orders to the wrong people. Fair. But hereâs a plot twist: Iâve already been a victim twice because your staff handed my food to someone else. So the solution? Apparently not more careful checking, but treating actual paying customers with suspicion and condescension. Genius.
And letâs address the elephant in the roomâbecause clearly something in your tone, your glances, and your little side conversations changes depending on who walks through that door. Whether itâs skin color or just a tired stereotype about âdrivers,â you treat people differently. And thatâs not just bad serviceâitâs a bad look.
Newsflash: being a driver does not make someone undeserving of eye contact, a hello, or a moment of patience. What I find offensive isnât just the repeated âare you a driverâ line, but the underlying message: that anyone who might be a driver isnât worth treating like a customer, let alone a human being.
Last time, I was made to wait 20 minutes in silence. When I asked, I was met with a flat âsoon.â No apology. No accountability. Just the type of warmth you reserve for inanimate objects.
If customer loyalty means being profiled, ignored, and made to feel unwelcome, then congratulationsâyouâve nailed it. Until then, I hope your pancakes are fluffier than...
Read moreWent there is the morning for breakfast and coffee. I got greeted nicely and sat right away. They got the coffee going and even took my order in good time. The food was also delivered in good time but from there, the waiter never checked on me again and they were only moderately busy. They had a coffee girl going around but when she saw my cup 3/4 still filled she didnât even bother to ask if I want it topped off. She was gone before I could ask so I never bothered with a refill. When I went to pay and handed him my AmEx he stated they didnât take American Express without apologizing, only waited for me to give another form of payment. That didnât sit well after his team not checking on me. He didnât even ask how my meal was but oddly enough asked âhow ya doingâ when I first brought the check to get ring up, as if he was stuck in a mode of greeting new customers. If this was his way of asking how my meal was it was odd to say the least. I dug out another card and advised him they didnât charge that much more for AmEx and he didnât bother apologizing at that point (even though I just gave him another opportunity) and didnât say another word like have a nice day after I finished paying (with a 20% tip that I regret leaving after writing up all the negative vs positive points). Parking is minimal. 5 spots on the far side, that you can barely see pulling in. Most likely employees from here and the store next to them fill this up. The rest is shared parking that is in front of the next door building with the cleaners and shoe repair, so it can get filled up during peak times. I was in between meeting with clients on Mercer island and went a little out of my way to come here since I wanted a good breakfast. If itâs convenient I might come here again for the good food but not for the mediocre service and less than stellar attitude from the cashier. Pricing is what you expect from restaurants in this area which is slightly on...
