Normally don't write reviews unless experience was either exceptional or nauseous which unfortunately this was!!! Went there on recommendations of a few who said was pretty good and we wanted to try something different. First thing I noticed was that if you weren't a local or regular the waitress service (Tiffany)was very poor. She was not to friendly for starters, more concerned chatting with regulars. I had to ask for drink refills and she never asked how meal was. When received bill she dissapeared and after waiting a little while wife took payment up to counter to give to her. Ironically friendliest staff person there was one who was working ice cream counter as she said goodbye in friendly manner. Now for the food ugh 😑 😫. We both got the chicken parmesan. We got salad with house dressing which had no flavor. Spaghetti sauce was ok. The chicken was 2 good size proportions however this was either processed chicken or under cooked as it had rubber like texture. Also wife's had big hunk of gristle and bone in one piece which was further nauseating!! I did not bring this to waitress attention mainly because she really wasn't interested in our experience more so in talking with locals plus not being a regular didn't want to cause a scene being first time patron. I am one who never throws food out and always eats my wife's leftovers but this was so nauseating had to throw away!!! To sum it up, if your not a regular don't expect good service, food was horrible and for us that equals never going back!!! Not great recipe for increasing patrons especially out of towners like Altoonans!!!! UPDATE TO YOUR RESPONSE. AS far as drinks go yes the water with ice and lemon was awesome thats why I asked for refill. As for the chicken most local restaurants serve real chicken although there portions are smaller as price has increased. Instead off giving larger portions of processed chicken giving smaller of real is much more palatable. As for sauce I didn't trash it i said was ok as like you said that is personal preference and I understand. When a waitress does not ask how your meal was I didn't want to cause any problems as we ate most of it and I would never eat part of something and say didn't like in order to get something else. Hope you use this feedback in a...
Read moreThis could have been a wonderful experience, but because we were new to town we were treated with a fair bit of disdain and service left us waiting far longer than people that came in after us. We weren't checked on unless we had to be and there was no friendly tone for us, only other tables. If you're a local; enjoy it. If you're freshly moved in, or passing through for any reason, it can be passed for somewhere else.
Edit: To answer the owner's question, and elaborate based on other reviews having a problem with the same person for the same reason; otherwise I would not call her out by name. Yes, I have worked in customer service before, no this definitely wasn't a "having a bad day" treatment, as it was only to our table. The waitress according to the receipt is Tiffany. She didn't even bother telling us her name, and the only smile we really got was as we left, shortly after my kids mentioned out loud that I had left a review. We were kind and polite to her the whole time, and yet we were still treated like we were not welcome. We had plenty of time not being checked on to just observe her behavior with everyone else, and feel the wrath of her glares and eye rolls every time she walked past our table and glanced at us. I will not be returning even though I'm in the area to visit family every year and my grandparents are buried...
Read moreNot the worst place I've been but after hearing some ppl say how great this place was, I was disappointed. Pancakes were only thing that came out hot and they were every day normal pancakes. Scrapple was Meadows and that my fav kind but it was brought out about room temp which stinks to me. Ordered scrambled eggs with cheese and they were brought out with 2 ice cold slabs of cheese not even close to melting and further more making the eggs cold. The Heinz ketchup bottle sure seemed like they were mislabeled to me cuz I love Heinz and that didn't taste at all like the Heinz ketchup I eat. Maybe it was just rotten? I don't know. The chocolate milk was good and the waitress seemed to be trying to be nice but not the most appealing waitress when it comes to personality. The one other good thing I can say is the price. Very affordable and rightfully so. The herd of about 20 old men telling BS stories and complaining about ppl these days and those damn kids were annoying but they are everywhere and unavoidable! Haha! Sorry but the only thing I can say about Irvins is if you're looking for a cheap and not horrible meal, this is the...
