Taste Cafe — Restaurant in Bensalem Township

UPDATE January 2022 I had my usual orders of hot and sour soup, Wonton Soup, black pepper chicken, general tso's chicken, sesame chicken all with pork fried rice and egg rolls. Very good. Prices have increased over the past year but only by 30 or 40 cents per item. Posting updated menu with prices.

A good offering of Chinese food. While this isn't the best Chinese food available anywhere it is better than most in the area in my opinion. The hot and sour soup is very good, the black pepper chicken is a surprising favorite of mine and the dinner combinations are excellently priced and filled. The food usually is ready when they say it will be unless it is a busy night then add an extra 5 -10 minutes due to high demand. You definitely want to ask them to make it spicy if you like spicy dishes even if it says spicy on the menu. Ask for the fresh hot mustard as it is worth it. I am very disappointed! I ordered a combo General Tso's and I asked for extra spicy Szechuan sauce on the side. When I got home and opened it up, I saw I did not get what I ordered. What I did get was some sort of brown watery liquid. I did try the brown water and there was no flavor and no spice at all. The chicken was bald and the rice was dry. ANd I would have mixed it all in with the Szechuan. I called and was told the brown water is Szechuan, that this is a spicy Szechuan, She made no offer to bring it back and give me the sauce I ordered and the egg roll I didn't not get! . Never again, in my opinion bad...

I went to Taste Cafe because of the high rating, but after going I am not sure why the rating is SO high. They had the same menu any other Chinese restaurant has; really nothing different, nor was the food any worse or any better than any of the other places in the area. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and although the portion was very large, I was disappointed in the flavor. My mom had General Tso's Chicken. It didn't look like what you would normally see and the taste was, well, just "meh." The staff was very nice and the prices are very reasonable. It really is a no frills place - more for take out...
