I have to say that I was a little apprehensive about dining here, considering the wide cross section of reviews, but I've never lived & died by reviews...took a chance...and was ABSOLUTELY pleased with the experience. Two of us enjoyed a birthday dinner here this past Saturday and couldn't have been happier with the atmosphere & meal. We took the earliest seating available (5PM), and are glad we did; you're going to spend some time here eating and enjoying yourself. We never felt rushed, and were given ample time between courses. As others have said, this place is quite pricey; as long as you know that going in, you'll be good. Another thing to know is that most everything here is a-la-carte. So, if you want potatoes with you're steak, you're paying extra; same goes for veggies or any other side. They offer some 'toppers' for your steaks, too, which is a really nice addition (that you'll also pay for). All that being said, I must say that EVERYTHING came out EXACTLY as we had hoped, and the taste of everything we ordered was out of this world. Not a single complaint. Pan seared scallops for an appetizer (perfectly done); two Tomahawks - one medium rare, and the other medium well; side of mashed potatoes; bleu cheese and hot cherry peppers to top the steaks. Magnificent! Service was outstanding - never waited for a refill on the wine or cocktail, and he (Jared) checked back often, but didn't make a frequent flyer out of himself. Perfect. The atmosphere was great - we ate on the patio, and it was a great night to be out there with the fires going. Inside felt fresh and trendy - but it also felt local, like it belonged at the Shore (which, being a local, is quite appreciated).
If there's one gripe I have, it's the credit card service charge. I get it - I know many establishments are passing this off to the consumer. HOWEVER. Applying a 4% charge on a bill of this magnitude just feels like robbery: in our case, it amounted to a $20 upcharge. I don't think it cost you $20 to process the payment. Additionally, I came armed with several hundred dollars in my pocket to avoid this nonsense. Maybe I'm naive, but I certainly didn't expect my total to be north of what I had on me....but it was. So, they kind've have you over a barrel. Many would argue that if you can afford to eat here, it shouldn't really be a concern...well, it's the principle of the matter. And that's that.
All in all, I 100% recommend...we will definitely be back. The experience was exactly what I had hoped for, and Berkeley Cut delivered. Next time, I'll just bring...
Read moreMy wife and I had the Octopus as an appetizer and the Tomahawk Steak for two for our main course. Our drinks and Octopus were the best part of our meal, but it went downhill from there. When our main course came, our side dishes came out first, then 5 minutes later our steak came out. Our Tomahawk Steak was served on a wooden cutting board, which looked great, but our table was not prepared and we had to help the runner make space for the steak. Okay no problem, but as he placed the steak on our table, the drippings started to drip on the table and on my shorts 😩. Now the food… Cream of spinach, one of my go to side when eating steak. That said, I’ve never had Cream of Spinach cooked and presented like a French Onion Soup 😩. Tomahawk Steak, we order it with a temperature of medium rare, traditionally “pink in the center.” The ends of the steak were well done and the center of steak was bloody “Rare” and poorly seasoned. I’m not going to compare this restaurant to the premier steakhouse like Keens, Smith & Wollensky, Sparks, or Peter Luger, but I will compare them to chain steakhouse like Ruth Chris and Capital Grill with similar price points and unfortunately Berkeley Steakhouse does not even come close to the quality of food or service. In summary, I would give them an A- for effort but D for execution. The concept of an “upscale” restaurant/steakhouse down the shore is a great idea and I hope they can straighten out their kitchen. Until then, don’t...

First of all, even though my daughter's steak was medium instead of medium rare it was delicious and perfectly seasoned. My lobster bolognese was the best ever. Huge portion and delicious. My wife's lamb lollipops were excellent and it was her birthday on July 8th and the rain held off. The Octopus was delicious also. My other daughter's salmon and my son's fillet mignon and lobster mac and cheese and side of shrimp and scallops were perfectly cooked. Our grandchildren shared a meal due to there not being a children's menu. Overall for just opening up, it was a great time. Alcohol is alittle expensive as is the tomahawk steak but overall a great experience. We'll be back and they serve an unbelievable breakfast from 7 am to to 1 pm. Our Waiter Alex was totally and only concerned with making our night perfect. Kristan the General Manager was going around making sure we were pleased with our dinner. She made the right decision in hiring Alex. Also my wife said her chocolate martini was the best she ever had and I might say my creme brulee was also very good. Jerry and Gary made the right decision in opening Berkeley Cut. I've been a Bum Rogers guy forever and the Berkeley Bar before that. You hire great people that care about their customers and it's a win win...
