We decided to stop here for breakfast, there was 6 of us. We got there at 9. Put our orders in by 9:10. We were the only ones there besides 4 other people (2 of which already had there food). 45 minutes later, 5 of us got our meals, with 3 people's eggs being cold. We normally would not complain about this if the place is busy (which it wasn't), or if there's issues that the waitress would have informed us about (which she didn't). 10 minutes later, we asked where the 6th person's meal was. We got let me check. The waitress came back with well we were a little busy and got backed up (mind you the rest of us are done eating). In the meantime, there was 6 other people that came in, had gotten their meals already and left. They finally brought out our other meal, and we asked the waitress to talk to the manager. The waitress asked us why? And, we said because of the service. At this point, it was over an hour before our final person got his meal. The waitress got rude with us saying she didn't understand why we needed to talk to the manager, saying we got our food. We said again because of the service. The waitress started arguing with us that they were backed up, that they only had a small grill, and couldn't handle large orders, and that hash browns took a while, and that we were rude to her because we wouldn't answer her. When she came by to ask if we needed coffee refills, we were obviously talking. When we finished our sentence, we would answer her. She claimed we didn't. So we finally get our waitress to get the manager, we explained it all over again to the manager who said she totally understood. We requested that the last meal that was really late be removed from the bill, and said because of the service we'd probably never be back, to which she replied let me see what I can do, and said please give us a 2nd chance. She continued to tell us the waitress forgot to put it in. So, we were thinking that she's going to come back with that meal taken off the bill. Instead, another woman (cook/owner?) comes out and says "what's the problem here" very loud. I asked do we need to go through all of this again? She slams the bill on the table and yells at us, you're not getting free food, he ate it, you"re paying for it, all the while pointing at us. She went on to say I was rude for asking that question, when all we wanted was the last meal taken off the bill for it taking longer than the rest of our meals. She started screaming at all of us, telling us we were rude, crazy, and telling us she was going to call the cops on us. We got up to leave as she was still screaming at us, and told us never to come back. I never had such pathetic customer service in my life. This was beyond despicable! The cook/owner told us to never come back... Like that would...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you were to ask me to make a list of events in my life Iād choose to relive, that list may be short. Working for Tammy, though, would certainly be one of those things Iād do again! She had two signs in the restaurant in particular that stood out to me. One of them read, āWe rise by lifting each other up,ā and the other, āMistakes mean youāre trying.ā It was those two signs that decidedly made me want to waitress for such a compassionate person.
All restaurants go through hiccups and hard times and itās always a shame to see them go. Thereās a certain balance of things that seems to be A LOT to take on in the restaurant business. To someone like me, it was more than a restaurant. It was a place to call a home away from home, many others will agree. She knew that, and she wanted to have a safe place for gathering in this community. I got to watch in admiration and awe as her and her daughter held on to a dream and a local legacy. I can only hope someone else sees its importance in Berwick and takes the torch. The memories of the old Uptown diner and The Berwick Family Restaurant will not be lost on this self-proclaimed Historian.
As for the food, there was always a little something for everyone! Whether you were a Diabetic, Vegetarian, Heart-healthy, or just looking for some homemade dessert, they aimed daily to cater to their customers. I personally couldnāt find a better omelette around! The coffee and iced tea were continuous and the customersā opinions were frequently asked and absorbed into the daily routine.
I miss a bunch of the customers and wish you well! Hopefully the future of our area will generate more family-friendly locations to enjoy that are alcohol-free and maintain that Old-Fashioned American...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePlaced an order through DoorDash and when order arrived I received less than a quarter of one of the ordered meals. Called and the resolution was that they could mail me a gift card for the difference of the meals missing items? Will never eat at this place again. Horrible customer service and even worse customer resolution. If you enjoy paying your hard earned money for items you will never receive and/or waiting for a restaurant gift card for a week to use at the very restaurant you now choose to avoid, go...
