Our holiday-gathered family of 10 was looking for a place to eat out on the Sat. morning after TGiving, 2022. We wanted a place where our wait time would at least be reasonable, and where reviews were good. Who wouldn't? 😉
As some of our out-of-state family members were staying in Yukon, we ended up deciding to try Jim's Diner, based in part on the location. We also had called and learned there was no wait time at that moment. (Perhaps the very wet & dreary weather that day kept the usual patronage away?)
We had no wait and were indeed able to sit together. The 4 grandchildren were nestled in the corner booth adjacent to our window seats.
Service was prompt and friendly. No missing food items, and the food was very fresh. We noted the attentiveness of our waitress checking on us from time-to-time throughout the meal. The staff was also attentive to cleanliness keeping other tables near us cleaned off as needed.
The 4 rating relates partially to the fact that only one of the three adults who ordered scrambled eggs received the eggs "scrambled" in the sense that they were "fluffy".
The remainder of the two orders arrived flattened in texture, as in an omelette sans any added ingredients (meat, veggies). These orders were for plain scrambled eggs; and, while the taste was fine, the texture was not as pleasing.
The 3rd order that did come as true scrambled eggs received high praise on all counts! This brother-in-law is not shy to request "corrections"; so, to hear him say that the scrambled eggs were GREAT, the "best I've ever had", was high praise indeed!
The kids gobbled up their funny-face pancakes! There are usually two that are contrary, but all were delighted!
I ordered an omelette. The remaining reason for the 4-stars is that while the two ingredients I requested to be incorporated INTO it were served, they were not cooked into the omelette itself.
I had asked for them to substitute cottage cheese as one omelette item: it came in a small bowl, thus served cold.
Adding it to the eggs resulted in cooling-off the omelette and cheddar cheese that was melted on the top. The overall taste was still good; but, the omelette was not served as it should have been.
I should add that none of us "egg" orderers opted to ask for do-overs due to our OWN time constraints. And, the food did taste good.
It's a diner atmosphere at Jim's, casual. The experience was over-all positive, and for those of us who live in OKC local, we plan to remember Jim's as an option we will use.
Based on the attitude I sensed from any of the staff we encountered, I believe they do want to "serve" patrons' needs. For anyone trying Jim's Diner for the 1st time, I would recommend a bit more emphasis on specific order preferences, asking questions at the time if needed.
Finally, I'm not sure how long Jim's Diner has been around; but, we think it's been here for quite some time. Now that we've been inside to eat, my husband and I both feel we've sorta "seen" it before while whizzing by on 39th.
It's the kind of place you find out about, and then wonder why you never thought to try it years earlier.
Thank you for accommodating our family: a group of ten with no reservations. We look forward to coming in...
Read moreI went here on July, 11, 2017. And it was the worst, I ordered to go, I tried calling back, but the phone was busy, until closing. I sent an email, but no one ever responded, this is the email I sent,
I am writing this to you in an email, because I have tried to call your store back, from 8:30 and you are closed now. And the phone has been busy. First, I would like to say, I do not like to complain, but it was so bad, and you should know. For starters I ordered a to go order on the phone, she was polite, and friendly, but at the end of my order, I asked her how much it would be, I waited on the phone for 14 minutes for her to give me an answer, but she never did, so I hung up, I figured that maybe she got busy. Then I came and picked up my order, I asked if they were sure that everything was in there, and I repeated my order, and they said yes. I got home and the first thing I noticed was that the 2 extra orders of sausage links were not in there, which happens, I know, so I tried to call but it was busy, so I got all our food out and everyone started eating, and the fried eggs in my order, were supposed to be runny yolk, and cooked whites, well none of them were runny. The fried green tomatoes were awful, they were hard no flavor, and tasted like they were pre made, definitely not fresh. The hash browns would have been ok if they at least had some salt and pepper, some of the sausage links that came with our meals were not cooked all the way, the chicken fried steak was ok, and the pancakes were just ok. But we had to end up ordering pizza because none of us could eat our food, and after spending, $50.15 on your food, I had to spend more. I expect the food to not be as good as when eat there, but it was so bad, I mean really bad, we have eaten better take out from Ihop. I don't know if that was just a new cook, or they just do not care, but I have never had food that bad, and the last time I ate there it was good, that's why we ordered. But it was definitely not worth $50 dollars, especially since I had to spend more money. I do really hate to complain, or give bad reviews, but you need to know what is going on at your restaurant. Do yourself a favor and don't bother spending your money here. I used to love this restaurant, but they have really...
Read morePUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT! Exceptionally Great Experience or a Horrible Disrespect for hard earned money usually prompts a review from me. But, this one is more about Safety. Jims was a staple in the community when I was growing up and deserved to be so with the kind wait staff and classic Diner menu. But they changed owners years ago and it is apparent that ZERO investment in the establishment, community, and quality have been made. 9:30 on a Sunday they should have been packed but the parking lot had maybe 10 cars in it. We were sat in a dark and dank room whose floors made an audible sticky sound with every step and the grout was black with mildew and years of negligent sanitary practices. There was old food under at least 5 of the 8 or so tables in this room and Menus had dried food on them. The Window at our booth had a huge crack in it and the 4 year old at our table sliced his finger open on the crack and began bleeding. After cleaning up the cut in the bathroom we asked to be moved and the Female Owner/Manager began arguing with the server in the middle of the restaurant saying that we could not do that, not realizing we were standing behind her. Many of us have worked in hospitality and recognize this attitude as a total lack of respect for the customer, their money, and ultimately their Health when your product is perishable food. We left this place with an injured child and no sincere apology from the staff or Owner. Given the filthy state of this restaurant and attitude of the the staff and owner we likely would have fared much worse had we eaten there. The nostalgia we were looking for could not exist here. If you walk up or drive by this place take note of its appearance (window, Landscape, etc) and that should be all you need to make your decision. Enter and Eat at...
