Went for Brunch on Sunday and unfortunately the experience was not good. Sat down at the table and we ordered drinks. My fiancee ordered a drink and I ordered a iced coffee and a screwdriver, for which I was carded for. My iced coffee never came but received my screwdriver. I took a sip and then passed it over to my fiancee to try it. She took a sip and passed it back. The second I get it back, a waiter came running out of nowhere screaming "Sweetie, I'm going to need to see your ID. You're not allowed to do that." She complied and provided the ID for which she is of the legal drinking age. The waiter then proceeded to claim they didn't want to lose their liquor license. The loudness of his voice caused quite a scene as the entire restaurant was looking at us. We were quite embarrassed and then he gave the license back and walked away. Never thanking her or apologizing for the embarrassment he caused.
I have no problem for him asking for the ID but to cause such a scene over it was embarrassing. It's like he was on a power trip trying to catch her being under age and get us in trouble. This is the first time I have ever experienced this at any restaurant I have been to. Taking a sip out of someone''s drink when they are underage is certainly something that should not warrant this type of reaction. Calmly ask us or have our waitress ask would have been a better scenario for everyone.
Frankly, we are never going to go back because of the way they treated a first time customer. The embarrassment alone warrants us never going back and frankly, the restaurant should be embarrassed by this...
Read moreI had breakfast at Valerie's on 7/25 and sat at the bar. First, the good. The restaurant was nice, modern and clean, with a good atmosphere. The menu was extensive, bartender was friendly and very good and the speed of the food delivery was fantastic.
Now the bad. I ordered the Create Your Own Omlette (Cheddar Cheese only) with Sourdough Bread (a $1.00 surcharge for $13.49. A survey of egg prices at Hanaford indicates that the average cost of a dozen eggs has dropped to $3.50 a dozen or approximately 29 cents per egg. So, for $13.49, I received a two egg cheese omelet that had an approximate actual cost of $1.58 ($0.58 for the eggs and $1.00 (this is generous) for the cheese. Not sure of the actual cost of the sourdough toast, allowing $1.00 per slice (this does not include the $1.00 surcharge), this brings the total actual cost of the meal to $3.58. Not sure if homefries or anything are included or extra, but my meal did not come with anything other than toast.
The bottom line is that, in my opinion, a $10 profit (obviously some of this pays other expenses) is ridiculous on a $13.49 item (which also does not include a 15% to 20% tip) to help pay some company expenses. Restaurants, not just this one, have no problems increasing prices when wholesale prices go up, but do not lower them when wholesale prices go down. I will not be returning until costs of all egg related menu item are lowered accordingly to reflect the current...
Read moreWent for the first time as a party of four. It was clean and the staff was pleasant and attentive despite the place being obviously understaffed. Two of our party had Monty Cristo sandwich they said were hot and delicious. The coffee was also good and the waitress made sure we had enough. That’s the good.
Now the bad: My husband and I went for simple; two eggs (over easy), home fries and raisin toast. Both meals came out close to stone-cold They felt like they had sat the whole time the Monti Cristos were being made plus some. The home fries had little to no seasoning and were just mushy.
Eggs were also cold and had they not been quite so cold I might have gotten over the fact that some of the whites were still clear, so undercooked as well. I take some responsibility for that, I could have asked to have them cooked over medium because everyone’s idea of over easy seems to be different but everyone can tell if they are cold so that’s on them!
The toast was small squares of hard stale bread with no discernible butter or spread on either side. We considered sending the meals back, but the waitress was flying around like crazy and there were at least 20 or so people waiting for tables plus we just didn’t have the time to hang...
