This was my first visit to The Windmill & Bar 51, it's got the one star because I thought that the place itself was very nice. The art on the walls, the large beams, the whole "barn" windmill thing it has going on. Also the fact that it was very roomy. I think that's about it though so I'll start with my drink. I ordered a margarita, (no flavor or anything) I expected an original Mexican margarita full of flavor what I got was the opposite. It really did taste watered down, and I had an orange floating in it. Oranges are great for garnish on a margarita I guess but not floating. Our waitress was nice enough but no more. She kept the whiskey and soda coming for my friends husband.. Which was good but she seemed to just say and do exactly what is in every waitress training book out there. (Not that I know of a good training book) I've waited tables in places that were 2 times as busy as this place was and she just had nothing extra. Our plates were carried out by someone else, he had to ask who ordered what, I just never would have had that happen at a table of mine. I would have had table notes or something to guide who ever brought my plates out. The food, I ordered the prime rib, when the plates were brought I have to be honest and say that I looked before he served and the color of it was not appetizing. There was about 5 green beans on the plate that were cold and not really cooked. Was that garnish? I don't know. The prime rib was almost hot, I ordered it med rare and the edges were raw, the next bit I suppose could have been med rare and the center was cooked. How was this accomplished? I don't know but I'm being completely honest here. I don't review restaurants but very rarely.. Actually I don't leave a lot of reviews here but this one I felt needed one. Was my portion put together with another piece to get 8oz of meat that was offered on the menu? Is that where the raw pieces came from? The others I was dining with, another prime rib and then a ribeye steak, also said that theirs were just not as good as expected for the cost. Other things were, the prime rib really had no flavor, both of us agreed, my onions were not cooked the way I had asked, if I hadn't of asked for the blue cheese crumbles.. The ribeye while it looked good didn't really have a good flavor. I can say though that my baked potato was good. Like I said, this was my first visit, those I had dinner with have been to The Windmill before. They said that they have had a really good dinner there before but then they've had dinners like last night there too. Is it a fluke? Did we come on a bad night? For the price of three to eat and have drinks I don't think I'll take my...
Read moreAbsolutely beyond disgusted with this place. I called ahead of time to place an order for pick up and upon ordering I let the lady know that I would be on my way and I gave her my order 10 minutes later The same lady called me back to confirm and verify my order so I get to the restaurant at the approximated time and they informed me that it’s going to be another 10 more minutes so I take a seat outside to adhere to social distancing guidelines and what do you know my food is ready and packed and they’re waiting and nobody lets me know so I walked back in the store and I asked him if the orders ready and they said yes it’s been ready for 10 minutes I say that’s kind of funny because you said it would be 10 more minutes and that was 10 minutes ago but anyways OK so then I drive home and I I’m super excited to sit down and eat my wonderful steak and crab that I just paid $80 for just to find out that I have a country fried steak covered in gravy with green beans and mashed potatoes I mean it’s amazing that they changed my order but the least they could’ve done was let me know that they were going to change it and confirmed with me and then charge me with the change order item instead of the other item which costed a whole hell of a lot more So my mike nice prime rib dinner that I was super excited to Excited to eat is now a country fried steak meal that is going in the garbage When I called to speak with management all she could say was I am sorry I am sorry I am sorry and the one thing that these people do not understand as other people have lice to and other people have things going on in their life’s too so the fact that they completely ruined my meal which mind you this Is the first meal I have finally gotten myself to want to eat in almost a week has now been officially ruined not refunded and I have paid for a $80 meal that literally went in the garbage I mean it’s unreal what kind of customer service is this what kind of show are we running over here are we literally taking the money out of our American citizens pockets Over mess ups to a restaurant makes and can’t fix I mean this is absolutely ridiculous go somewhere else save your money save your time and save the...
Read moreAfter reading other reviews, this place is the Russian roulette of eating establishments. It had plenty of parking and a clean environment. The wait staff was friendly and approachable. However, the music was a far too loud for my preferences, as I don't enjoy yelling at my guest(s) to have a conversation. In retrospect, the prices seem foul when the average entree is $20 a pop and a side salad is extra. The food was absolutely horrendous which is the most damning complaint of this place. Customers will always return to somewhere a little dirty, too loud, rougher restaurant if the food is amazing. This is not it. The food was extremely greasy, like fast food greasy. The baked potato tasted like licking bacon grease off a skillet with some butter to top it off. (The irony, more grease). Their signature chicken dish was desert-dry and rough, the prominent flavor profile of sun-dried tomatoes was obliterated by mushroom and under cooked rice, leaving you wondering what you ordered. Their chicken-fried steak was a hunk of meat dipped in non-seasoned, bland tempura batter. No offense, but has the head chef ever had a chicken fried steak? The batter is the most important part! And apparently our final assumption for the evening, was everything is frozen or pre-alloted, because a simple request for a different gravy was denied. I'm no sous-chef but, a single serving of gravy isn't a complicated dish to an implied "prestigious" steakhouse. After living in Florida for years, no restaurant of this merit would deny such a thing. I would recommend spending your money somewhere else and I'm genuinely surprised they are still...
