Ore Mercantile, Deli, & Bodega — Restaurant in Birmingham

It's about time Birmingham got an authentic italian deli. I can honestly say I have experienced the real thing in NYC, Long Beach, and LA and this is comparable to all 3 of those. I had the 6" Avondale and it was more than I could eat. I don't see how anyone could eat a 12" alone. I didn't weigh the meat but I'd guess this was 2X the amount of meat & cheese as you'd get on a 12" from Subway or Firehouse Subs and that's on a 6" sandwich. Bread was gourmet and excellent. Probably the largest selection of unique sodas and bottled beverages I've ever seen at a restaurant. I'd estimate there are more than 50 different drinks NOT including traditional Coke and Pepsi products. Friendly staff made me want to return ASAP. You cannot go wrong with this true authentic...

If you have not been yet do yourself a favor and go check out Ore. It’s a top notch place to grab a fantastic sandwich for lunch I go once a week ( be sure to Try one of the sides they are all great (oh and for sure get a cannoli... you will be happy you did) if the great food isn’t reason enough to stop in, add the unique items for sale in the store end and you will quickly realize that this is a very unique spot that Avondale and Birmingham are lucky to have. Friendly folks, cool hats, shirts, overall the store feels a bit like a highbrow beach store. The sandwich shop is in the back of the store I ordered a sandwich and enjoyed the pickle and the tasty cannoli that was included in my order. The Dirty Hippie sandwich introduced me to tofurky, a fully flavored addition to the vegetarian lifestyle that I will probably buy on occasion. The sandwich was good in its concept but had too much bread. I love bread but this was neither a Baguette, nor a Cuban bread and I didn't like it much.
