This place was just so lackluster. A friend and I came to try their arepas before the Coheed show (also sucked, because they didn't play anything earlier than a decade ago, but that's another gripe for another day). They had everything else we'd seen in their online menu BUT the arepas.
I ordered one fish taco and a Razz. They didn't have the strawberry for it so they subbed it for passion fruit. It was an acquired taste and didn't exactly pack a punch. For $10, it better be stronger and larger than that.
The fish taco was bland as all get out. It was just one huge slab of fish with zero seasoning whatsoever. I couldn't even put my finger on what the green sauce on it was attempting to be, it was so boring.
My friend got 3 tacos thinking they'd be 3x the size of my one since he paid 3x as much. Instead, they were these three rinkydink, measly two bite tacos that equaled about 1 1/2 of mine. Completely unacceptable.
They left my friend's beer on the counter for 20 mins, open, and it was flat and lukewarm when he finally walked up and got it for himself.
The whole outdoor taco idea is great in S. Korea where it's been common for 20 yrs, but it doesn't work in a dirty place like Avondale (or Birmingham in general) where gnats were floating all around and landing on our food.
Also, for all the reviews saying this is "authentic Latin cuisine," I lived in Latin America a half decade and my friend lived in Spain twice as long. This is not even remotely authentic. Don't be deceived by people trying to get attention who've never actually seen another continent.
It was just a really unpleasant experience and there won't be a...
Read moreWhere do I begin? I am having serious trust in Google reviews after my experience here. Would you like to pay the price of a 6 pack for a single can of local beer? Do you like a margarita that's more water than alcohol or flavoring? Would you like to eat lukewarm food as you watch the owner/manager bring his and his friend's clearly steaming food directly from the kitchen? Do you like tacos with more seasoning in the tortilla than in the meat?
If you answer yes to any/all of these questions, then I highly recommend this place.
The service was fine, but it does not compensate for the worst attempt at Latin food that I have ever tasted. I could have deep fried my money for dinner, and gotten better value. I'm typically not a negative person (you can look at my other reviews and see that most are positive). I rarely leave a negative review. The fact that I took the time to leave this should speak the abysmal quality of...
Read moreArrived for dinner 5:30 PM. No one to greet customers, two people appeared to be staff. Four guests at bar, two in outside seating .Finally had drink and appetizer order taken about 25 minutes later after flagging someone down. Young lady never made eye contact took order and walked away. Other gentleman was talking to guess at bar, 25 minutes later saw drinks sitting on bar had to pick up ourselves. Ordered dinner , 45 minutes later appetizer and dinner both arrived, both cold. Orders Tres as appetizers, cheese had a film on top guaranteeing us it had been sitting for some time. If warm California Burrito would have been good, gentlemen that brought food had been at bar. During wait saw him and another employee take shots and use smelling salts. Needless to say our experience was not good. Spent $75.00 and two hours. With proper staffing and management this could I would visit again,...
