I live in Maple Valley, and had hoped to order cupcakes for my daughters birthday in our area (or close by) so called everywhere it felt like (two weeks ahead of time) everyone was booked out with weddings, graduation and parties) I panicked - during covid we knew we needed cupcakes (thinking of the comfort of guests, as my turning 5 year old girl blowing madly all over the cake made me rethink our cake tradition.. 🤣) so my last call went to Gracene’s and it was FATE, meant to be that they could accomplish the cupcakes for us. I was just grateful and wanted to keep it simple. Teal frosting and sprinkles (our theme was Raya and the Last Dragon). The day before her party was the day we reached outrageous high temperatures and the owner called with concerns of the cupcakes, danger to employees in the bakery with the AC and already hot conditions and will they be able to keep the cupcake frosting from melting into a puddle - we talked and I told her it will be okay whatever happens I understand and we will connect tomorrow. She woke up earlier than normal (had more orders than mine of course) and when she called that they were ready she had a twist and surprise as she knew previously my theme and made them more spectacular than my basic ‘keep it simple’ I was elated it meant more than anything that she went the extra - that extra trickled over into our lives and the Kindness of Gracene’s is everything!! I have wanted to try this place for a long time, and a couple months ago I heard they were having a princess meet and greet promotion, so I decided to check them out. My kids were very excited and my 2 year old dressed up in a Disney princess costume. When we showed up only a couple hours after the promotion started, we were very disappointed to hear that they had sold out of cupcakes. I heard after the fact that this happens every time the do this promotion- why not change the hours or make more cupcakes to accommodate?!

My kids were so disappointed, they at least gave us a coupon for some free cupcakes. Today I tried to return to use my coupon, on a Sunday afternoon when most businesses are open. The coupon said nothing about them being closed Sundays, and I drove out of the way to take my kids to get cupcakes. When we walked in we saw people making cupcakes, but we were so disappointed to hear that they are actually closed Sundays. My 2 year old was so, so upset. A week before my daughter’s fifth birthday, I put in an order for three dozen cupcakes of varying flavors. I had my mom stop in to pick them up the day before the party, but when she got there she was told that our order had somehow slipped through the cracks and was never fulfilled. You maybe wondering how this ended up as a five star review, but what happens next is an act of true humility and stellar customer service. The woman working at Gracene’s immediately admitted to the error, apologized profusely, then got to work on making things right. Instead of leaving us high and dry, she got all of our cupcakes prepared (within a few hours!) and even insisted on hand delivering them to us, so as not to further inconvenience us by having to come back in.
