Went to J Leonard's in Blackshear this weekend and in my opinion it was ok. I order the Stuffed Mushroom appetizers & Prime Rib Special, Twice Baked Potato, with a Cesar Salad. My Wife ordered Fillet Mignon, Twice Baked Potato, with a Garden Salad. The Stuffed Mushrooms were excellent. I ordered my Prime Rib Medium Rare, but it came to me more Medium to Medium Well. The seasoning was good, but it didn't come with any Au Jus or Horseradish Sauce for dipping like most Prime Ribs do. The Twice Baked Potato was good, and both my Wife and I loved our salads. My wife's steak didn't turn out too good. She ordered her Fillet Medium Well. It came out Medium Rare or a little below. It also had deep black char marks on the sear making it taste a little burnt. She sent it back, and when it came back it was still red in the center of the steak. Medium Rare in some spots, and Medium in others. It was Medium Well around the outer edge. The char marks on the sear were even blacker and it definitely had a burnt taste when chewing. The most disappointing thing about the Fillet was it had fat running thru it, almost like it was a Ribeye. Fillets aren't suppose to be served with fat on them. And before there are any comments saying you can't cook a Fillet to Medium Well without burning it, I do it all the time with steaks that are 1.5 to 2 inches thick. I sent a pic to my steak buddy and asked him what kind of cut it was, he immediately replied Ribeye. My wife didn't finish her steak, she gave it to me. Although the steaks didn't turn out great, the service was excellent. Our Waiter was on point, and another waiter even came over and tried to interact with my Grand Daughter (who is very shy). I would of liked the lights to be turned down a little dimmer in the dining area to chill the mood a little. It was pretty bright. The Desserts were very tasty, I got the Strawberry topped Cheesecake, and my Wife got Crème Brulee. I had high hopes coming here after seeing all the positive reviews. I love a good steak! Pic attached of the Fillet before I finished it off. I wish I would of got a pic of the whole thing. You can see the fat on it. Service 5 out of 5 Main Course 3 out of 5 Sides 4 out of 5 Dessert 5 out of...
Read moreThis was our first time here. Saturday night and 7:30 reservations as FYI on time and day for reference. Our server Cole was absolutely 5+ stars. The ambiance and Christmas decor also 5 stars. I only gave 3 stars on atmosphere as the table we sat at was next to a vent, and it was freezing. Please know, though, that we did not ask to be moved or to have the vent covered, so our bad on that. 4 stars on service as they were out of filet and all deserts, also cleanup began before we left the table. They were breaking down and moving tables while we were finishing up. For fine dining, that should have been done once the establishment was cleared of guests. 4 stars overall on the food as some of it was really good as we tried each others meals and some was so so. Not much flavor on the sirloin, the pecan crusted trout was very good, the shrimp and grits was also very good and kind-of reminded us of shrimp boil meets traditional shrimp and grits, so a nice job on that with the added extras in the dish. The she crab and French onion soup was very good and the asparagus side and crab cakes appetizer was also very good. Will definitely try again, maybe lunch next time. Overall, it was a very nice dinner with our family, and again beautifully decorated for Christmas. I just wanted to share my honest opinion on the strengths and weaknesses of our experience so that if some tweaks need to be made, the owners/operators know what customers truly...
Read moreUnfortunately, yes, things happen, but this was inexcusable. I had traveled south for a pre-planned, scheduled, and booked 80th birthday party for my auntie. I actually spoke with the manager over the phone, as he called me while in CT to review the menu. When I arrived in Blackshear, I went and met with him the day before the party. He walked me through the restaurant to the area where our family party of 30 would be seated. The same evening, at 10:37 pm. I received an email canceling our party. Understand we had spoken on several occasions over the phone. My sister met him, and he also showed her where the event would happen, etc. I know these "systems" have glitches, but to find a glitch the night before a party while you are setting up for said party. Only to discover that you overbooked, so you canceled our party by email. An email that wasn't seen until 11:50 pm, the night before the party. We had family members travel from out of state, myself included, for this 80th birthday celebration gathering. If anything, the restaurant should have been closed to the public to accommodate all parties. You missed out on a $2500-$3000 ticket. Nonetheless, we were able to get a better, more accommodating venue in Alma, Ga, that gladly serviced our needs. The service and food were amazing. This venue...
