On a day trip with my family, who have all been vaccinated for Covid we planned a visit to God’s Acre Healings Springs from the upstate of South Carolina. This was my first time going out of town since the pandemic. This was also going to be my first dine in experience too. We also planned on eating lunch at Miller’s Bread Basket. Years ago I dined at an Amish restaurant in Ohio, and the food was so good. After seeing Miller’s rating and reading the good reviews we decided to do lunch there. We didn’t make reservations, and we had sixteen people in our group. One family member went in and asked if they could seat sixteen people, they said they would put us in the conference room. That’s exactly what they did seated us, no one came in the room to tell us what we were supposed to do to get our food, or take our drink order. They just seated us and left us. I went with my niece to the room that had the food line to see what we needed to do to get our lunch. After doing that we told our family what they needed to do to get their food, and every body went and got in line. It’s a cafeteria style set up. A lady who I assumed was the owner came through telling us “ to make a line coming in and out “ was rude, we should have left at that point. You can get a meat and two for $10.15, a small salad for 4.80. The salad bar was small, but had a decent selection of add ins for a salad, the dressing containers were a little hard to maneuver, once I figured it out that was ok. They do provide gloves to use for making your salad, food from the hot bar is served cafeteria style, which was fine with me. From the hot bar I got carrots, mac and cheese, fried chicken( white meat) a breast and wing and a slice of butternut bread. By the time I got back from getting my food a waitress was taking drink orders. She was very nice, helpful and friendly. The carrots were so bright in color I just knew they would taste good, they tasted like carrots, but without any seasoning, the mac and cheese was flavorless too, the fried chicken was crispy and seasoned well. The homemade butternut bread was just ok, I tasted it and left it alone. No one wanted dessert, but some family members did buy some of the home made apple butters and jams. The 3 stars are for the unorganized way my family was treated, the salad bar, fried chicken and the waitress taking our drink order. I won’t dine at Miller’s Bread Basket again. The food in my opinion was...
Read moreMy parents had eaten there before, but this was my first visit. At first, I wasn’t sure if it was an all-you-can-eat buffet or a cafeteria-style setup. It turns out that you tell the staff behind the buffet what you’d like, and they either prepare a plate for you or hand you one to fill yourself.
I opted for the salad bar and was impressed by the variety and freshness of the vegetables. There were plenty of options to create a loaded, delicious salad. After choosing your food, you head into the dining area to enjoy your meal. Drinks are at a counter in the dining area, and the bathrooms are conveniently located at the back of the dining room. The restrooms were very clean and well-maintained, which added to the overall positive experience.
The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with people enjoying their meals and conversations in a relaxed setting. When I finished eating, I took my ticket to the register to pay. Nearby, there’s a gift shop with an assortment of unique items. I couldn’t resist picking up a few things! They also had baked goods like cookies and breads displayed near the register, which was a nice touch.
Overall, it was a unique and enjoyable place to visit. The food was great, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the additional features like the gift shop and baked goods made it even better. I’d happily go back and would recommend...
Read moreI discovered this restaurant in a Facebook post, one of those "here's a fun SC day trip" articles. I decided to camp at Barnwell State Park and check out the nearby healing spring. I could not have anticipated just how great the meal was here. The service was friendly, and the cost was very reasonable. A metal for two with dessert and tip was $30.
Most of what I read about Miller's Bread Basket said it is a buffet. That is incorrect. It is served cafeteria style, so you pick what you want and the server prepares your plate. Don't worry though, portions are generous! They serve a variety of meats, casseroles, and veggies. They also offer a fresh salad bar.
We had the July 5th special roast beef, and it was the best I've ever had. Please note I'm a country gal with a large family, and I've had some pretty amazing home cooking in my life. This was the best roast beef I've ever had. The sides were equally impressive. They will let you sample any of the dishes if you like. I highly recommend you try the harvard beets!
Dessert for me was the hummingbird cake. Split this one, it is very rich. Contains nuts, raisins, cinnamon and thick cream cheese frosting. Hubby had the brownie sundae which consisted of a warm brownie base, topped with heaps of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with...
