Bear Inn — Restaurant in Bloomfield Township

Honestly the place was beautiful. A few friends and I are from out of town, and we're asked our ID's. Unfortunately we are out of state and told that our cards could not Scan. I presented another ID, along with birth certificate and social security card, they still insisted they could not serve me. So I asked for a water instead and they were very rude . My friends asked for drinks and we watched the bartenders make them and then set them aside. After 15 minutes and still no drinks they asked me to leave, even though the bar posts a sign outside no one under the age of 18. The bartenders told me since my card didn't scan that there was no proof of how old I was, so therefore I had to leave. Honestly if you are Bartender you should be trained to read ID's, if not buy a scanner that reads all state IDs. If you are from out of state I don't recommend this bar. They don't take to kindly...

We were visiting the lake for our annual trip. We had the bear inn 3 times that week. Each time it got progressively worse. Appetizers screwed up, drinks not refilled, appetizers coming out separate from the others for the table, food comes out separate. The bartender waits on tables and the bar. Each day was a new excuse as to why things weren’t running smooth. It’s clear the main focus is on the bar and not so much the restaurant side of things.

Also, letting tons of people at the pool tables and letting them be loud and use profanity with kids in your establishment is not a good look (even though I understand it’s a bar)

I will say, the food itself is good. The Philly sandwich is very good, the fish is very good. Not quite sure if it makes up for all the other bad...

We decided to give the Bear Inn a try. Was a bit dubious on first impression. We are all non smokers and as this is a smoking bar (no one under 18 permitted), the dense smoke smell was pretty off-putting, as you have to enter through the bar. However the smoking was not evidenced in the back restaurant area. The server was quite busy, but greeted us quickly. Our orders came out in reasonable time. I had the new salad bar 9.99. Items were fresh and tasty. I would say it might be good to offer a discount on the salad bar if coming with a sandwich. They do this only with dinners.
