Otto's Deli — Restaurant in Bloomingdale

We love Otto’s! My Mom grew up right down the road and even though we live in Massachusetts now, it’s our fav and we’ve been eating the German potato salad for 50 plus years! This is our go-to deli for the BEST German potato salad on the East coast! We have driven 3 hours just to get it numerous times. My Mom said it’s been the same exact recipe for 75 plus years, our NJ family has been eating it for that long or longer. A walk into Otto's is a walk back into the past when neighborhoods had small businesses and everyone knew one another. But one thing didn't change. The high quality and authentic homemade German salads, delicious sandwiches, German specialties and frozen treats (for the Bogue Pond playground visitors) are tallied up the old fashioned way by Helmut, the owner, with a pencil on your bag. My parents started taking me there in 1976. When I got a bit older, I would drive my boat half a mile, jump a fence, and walk another half a mile to get my sandwich. Now I still go there regularly...I was there today. Same great family as 1976, the same quality, and the same level of old world kindness.
