Ate at Canal Street Diner in Bolivar, Ohio for the first time in September 2023. It has a small dining room, and some tables outside. It was quite busy when we arrived around 1:30 PM in the afternoon. There was 1 table available, and we were seated promptly. Servers were friendly. They also honored a coupon that I had.

I ordered a fish dinner and my wife ordered a chicken salad sandwich. We were told that they were out of chicken salad, although we heard someone else order it right before we ordered, and then another person successfully ordered it after we started eating. It must be good. However, my wife was not happy about that, as she had to order something else. Not sure why they could not say that it might be a little wait until they make some more? Unless we were not being treated as well, being new customers and not locals.

My fish dinner was good. The vegetable medley was very good, as well as the mashed potatoes. My only negative comment would be that no dinner roll or bread came with the dinner. That would have been nice.

Overall, I thought that the food and nice servers was worth stopping in. The mix up on the chicken salad sandwich was quite puzzling, but we did not push it. Had we arrived an hour earlier, I don't know if there would have been seating for us. Again, it is very small inside. However, it did empty out around 2:30 PM, when we left.

I would like to...

First impression of walking in this Diner I thought “oh my.. there is no way we are going to get good quality food here. But whatever, I’m so hungry, I just need food.”

You seat yourself upon entering. The most delightful waitress, named Rachel, was very helpful in directing my father and I through the menu.. the menu is huge! (Two thumbs up!) She even let me try the homemade root beer, which is not my drink of choice but I was impressed! Rachel was so social with every single customer, including us. I can’t say enough how great she was!

For the appetizer, we ordered fried onions with homemade batter with sides of homemade buttermilk ranch dressing. This was sooo goooood!!!!! A very large serving also!

My dad ordered the gyro, and our waitress informed us that the two owners of the diner are Greek and they know Greek food. My dad was in love with that gyro!!!!

I ordered the quarter pound cheese melt on Italian bread and the curly fries. And it was served with thousand island dressing. DELICIOUS!! 100% amazing!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS DINER TO ANYONE WHO...

This is one of those small town diners that everyone loves. Mostly locals just eating and visiting. The token table of old timers sipping coffee; talking local sports, weather and neighbors. Service is quick and friendly with the staff working as a team. It was lunch time when we got there, so we got a variety of foods. Quick trip to wash hands and scope out what others were eating and all the dishes looked delicious. We ended up ordering the Chicken Parm sandwich, Cheeseburger (both with their warm chips), and a meat lovers skillet. Portions were generous and the flavors were spot on. Wish we had more room or had a return trip planned so we could try more of their dishes. They serve Pepsi products which we are not a fan of, but their homemade Root Beer was delicious and well balanced without being too sweet. Hopefully, we will have the opportunity to...

Great food, excellent service! Small dinner in downtown Bolivar. 10 booths, 10 tables and three, cafe style counter seats (my favorite). Two separate lunch/dinner, and breakfast menus. A super cool brown butcher block "menu" hangs near the kitchen with daily specials. We order the margarita, chicken and Dirusso Sausage Skillet. Both entrees came with a side salad that was super fresh. The skillet came with a huge, thick slice of garlic toast.!My wife was excited because they had thousand island dressing, i had the homemade ranch, which was fantastic. I'm definitely going to have to come back because they have a excellent looking breakfast menu. They also have what appeared to be homemade desserts with a small ice cream freezer. Prices were very reasonable.

Gyros out of this world AWESOME! Greek sisters own this family restaurant / diner. Food 10 stars ********** Service is great, it's FAMILY owned. Small town, old fashioned, you know what a diner looks like. Atmosphere, because it's a DINER... you know it's a great family place, tables and booths are inside, we sat at the counter... fascinated by the small town vibe. When our food was ready, we decided to eat outside on the picnic tables there, beautiful sunny day. GYROS. best. y ummm
