Old 61 Diner — Restaurant in Boscobel

My wife and I stopped here just to try it out. I had been following the facebook page for sometime and was excited to see what the new owner was up to. So Ill start with the "not so good"

• hours are weird. (I use to visit the old establishment "the vale" and that place was busy 90% of the time). I also understand that its a hard nit to crack... restrict hours or consume the owners life because no one wants to work
• my wife got a cold cup of soup, review #1 "no one wants to work" The floor had food bits strewn about from the previous patron- ?? - We were the only ones there @ 130 pm- pretty simple task to clean the table... and around it - again review #1 Watched an employee "joyfully" turn off the open light and promptly remove the outside open flag. Yeah... review #1. Ok ok so the good Portion size was worth the price (35.00 for 2) and the food was good. The interior theme was nice - furniture was updated - was super ramped up because of the pre-advertising I had witnessed Waitress was smiley and pleasant Bottom line... Im not hook line and sinker convinced that I would go out of my way to go back. First impressions...

My husband and I went for a late lunch. There were only 2 other tables seated, so they were not busy. Our waitress was engaged in a personal conversation and didn't greet us for almost 10 minutes. The menu was nice and not too many options, decent prices. Our food arrived quickly and was olay. The drinks were served in metal cups which made it uncomfortable to hold and our water tasted odd from the aluminum, not a fan. A female staff member thought she knew my husband and was chatting with us, even after he told her he wasn't who she thought he was she didn't pick up on the body language that we didn't know her and just wanted to enjoy our lunch. She was just inches from his face while talking, we did just come out of a pandemic... not cool. After the awkward interaction we finished our lunch and paid the $35...

The food is good, and the prices are good. However, the wait is long, and the service leaves something to be desired. 4 of us waited for 45 minutes for two burgers, a BLT, a breakfast platter, and a piece of French toast for our son. And that was after we waited 10 for a server to even come to our table. I asked for the piece of French toast ahead of time to at least keep our son busy and content while the rest of us waited, and that didn't happen. We could only get drink refills if we asked, even for water.

We probably won't go back. We live here, and we had high hopes for something else coming to town, but the wait just doesn't...
