So my family recently moved to Bozeman from CA and we were looking for a good Mexican restaurant. We looked up reviews on La Tinga and the reviews seemed mostly good. We discovered that they have limited hours, but finally went out of the way to try it on a Friday afternoon. Upon arriving, we noticed a big handwritten CASH ONLY sign on the door. We didn't have any CASH with us, but thought maybe they had an ATM inside like some CASH ONLY businesses offer, I introduced myself and my wife to who seemed to be the owner and asked him if they had an ATM. He said no, but that they take checks with a license. My wife told him that our checks still had our address from CA. He then said sorry, we can't take an out of state check even though I had my new Montana drivers license. So I commented to him, "are you really concerned that we would write you a bad check for an $8 meal?" He said, yes. This got me furious because he said this in front of other customers, I then said, seriously, welcome to the 20th century, who doesn't take debit cards these days? He yelled, "Go back to California!" It took all of my constraint not to lay him flat, but we left and will NEVER go back to La Tinga. It wasn't the fact that he only takes cash, rather it was his concern about taking a check for a small transaction, after he offered to....
Read moreAbsolutely my favorite place to eat in all of Montana and beyond. The flavor combinations are always perfect, the owners and employees are polite and helpful, the plates are brought out in a thoughtful timely manner, and the atmosphere is relaxing. This is a brilliantly made establishment and is one of the coziest, calmest, and most satisfying places to get your breakfasts and lunches. I'm so confident in their abilities after dining there for half a decade, including at their previous location, that I often order whatever the specials are without even looking. The first time I heard of them, by the way, they came highly recommended by a culinary genius preparing to launch his own restaurant, so you can be assured that they are top notch. And the prices are amazing. In my opinion La Tinga should be a weekly tradition for everyone within driving distance. They only take cash, but a $10 bill will get you all you...

I saw people talking in Spanish and I grew up speaking a lot Spanish so I thought it would be nice to have conversation. Lady taking our order was very impressionable and just talked back to me in English. It was kind of painful to get a response like that.
The food was SUPER underwhelming! We got enchiladas and there was literally like, no filling. It felt like we got tortilla with sauce. We left the restaurant thinking "okay, so what are going to have for lunch now?" ? I pass by this place every day and I get so sad wishing this would've been our go-to place since we live nearby. I will say, the sauce was REALLY good and I kind of regret not talking to the lady to see if there was a mistake on our order being so...
