Was touring the college campus with TRiO. We were able to use the dining facility for our meals. It it has a huge wagon wheel on the ceiling and the lighting gives off very posh western bar vibes. The food is set up in groups by type of meal so burgers, dogs, and sandwiches in one area, salad bar in another. There is pizza and stir fry. It was challenging trying to find all the different foods I like to eat when I wasn't familiar with the layout. I had shrimp mango curry on rice 🍚 with a side of veggies and watermelon 🍉. I would say I prefer the food here than at Emory in Atlanta. The veggies just seem to taste better.
My only complaint is that the rice was not cooked right the night i ate. 😕 it my impression that the rice cooker isn't steaming the rice properly so everything at the bottom was turning to rice paste and the rice at the top was still hard. My armature cooking theory is: I think there was too much rice for the capacity of the pot and not enough water, so the air couldn't circulate properly as the rice swelled. I'll let the culinary people sort that one out though.
I was really impressed with the dining compost system though! This is awesome and I think all restaurants should have bins for all compostable food waste. It made me so happy to know my inedible rice was going to feed the plants 🪴 it was the highlight...
Read moreWill never go again for breakfast.. powdered eggs, cereal & pastries are about the only options. But the powdered eggs, really...I don’t want McDonald-grade food, especially when I’m paying 10x the price. They used to have an omelette bar. Very disappointing that it’s no longer an option for people like me who would rather have a fresh, nutritious meal to start my day. Their lunch and dinner options have more and better variety, but most of those options go away at 7, leaving pizza, cereal & desserts for those who can’t make it to an early dinner or who is cultured to eat later in the evening. I would think that MSU would be more considerate towards their many foreign exchange students. In general, nutrition seems to be very low on the priority list, especially in the mornings. If you do eat here, be careful of your timing or else it will be a...
Read moreMSU grad, long time Bozeman resident here. Eat here from time to time. I also ate and worked at Miller when it was still "the schwag" and hadn't been updated.
I hear a lot of griping amongst some MSU students. Here's my thoughts as someone that went to school here recently. By and large, the only people that think Miller sucks now are trust fund kids from out of state. Is it the best food ever? No, but it's great for a place of buisness in Bozeman where a historically bad labor crisis is occurring. I'd be surprised if they even have half of their positions filled.
If the food we average people eat is no longer appealing to you, you're going to have to hire private caterers. Maybe work some food service in your off time so you can know what it feels like.
I will say though that it's all you can eat, so come hungry to make the...
