Wow wow wow. I'm never one to be at a loss for words, but I hardly know where to begin....There is no mistake about a perfect score for this establishment. Meach's is a vibrant and stunning replacement to a very old dingey, boring and extremely dated old time watering hole. The local Ortonville and Goodrich communities have been crying out for something new and refreshing. Meach's not only answered that call, they took local dining to a new level and raised the bar so high, they OWN this town for the foreseeable future. The menu was expansive. Which worried me a little. I would have to try many items to get a grasp of this young chef's capabilities and what of the pricing??? I had spoken to several recent patrons, some of which, who keep a menu at home marking and rating each new dish they try. I was full of high expectations. We showed up as an 8 top table at prime time. We are a close group comfortable sharing dishes and passing bites along to one another. Sometimes at the risk of mortifying other patrons. But we are ALL foodies. Our order of drinks were brought quickly. And were delicious and accurate. One drink order was confused but the bartender personally made it right within minutes and great pride was taken to ensure the group was happy. We ordered several appetizers. Some traditional hot wings, which I order everywhere I go, looking for the new BEST. Well. We found them. These wings are "broasted" along with thier potato sides for entrees which has been a staple in the community going back to the 70's with the local chain Chicken schack. To prepare the wing and potatoes this way shows care and urgency toward quality. A stand out original was the "Crab Rangoon Dip" this elegant and unique dish was a surprise that delighted the entire table. And was ordered again for more!!! An unusual but delectable treat that would be on our go to list. Ther others pretzel bites. Artichokes and spinach dip, the off the menu and off the charts "Buffalo Cauliflower" was out of this world and welcomed by the health conscious. For my Entree I chose THE most difficult item on the menu to cook. The dreaded "Tomahawk Pork Chop" a feared dish as its failure rate rivals all challenges. As I waited, thinking about all that could go wrong with dish, It arrived Beautifully plated without pretense. It was elegant, yet down home. Accompanied by a wonderful and fresh locally grown apple chutney that spun my tastebuds and lended to the age old pork chops and applesauce mantra. It was cooked absolutely perfectly. Every slice, the same color and juicy, flavorful perfection. I still don't know how they cooked it so well. Also on the plate was fresh veggies that had a superb crunch and al dente' that kept them delicious and fresh. Great care on the veggies??? Who does this anymore??? Meach's does! The boasted potatoes where the finishing touch to a perfect dish, that I give five stars to. Another stand out dish was the Braised short ribs. Once thought of as an Easy dish to keep around, the BBQ savvy world has raised expectations that were met and exceeded. These were cooked to perfection with out the dry pot roast taste often obtained by sitting in the oven for an entire dinner service. Well done Chef!!! A surprise attack was the French dipPhilly cheese steak without the bun. The Chef KNOWS when a dish is so good that a savage carnivore much prefers to fill up on meat and cheese rather than a small loaf of bread. This Keto-friendly dish is off the charts. The delicious Au-Jus that somehow made it through the dish was a perfect match for er the high quality cheese and fresh meat that was prepared especially for the French dip lover. OmG this dish was the star! We also tried the orange Chicken Bowl and the Spicy AHI Tuna bowl. Two out of a collection that I am anxious to try. The Chicken pot pie was so good and comforting it was like ordering a Shepard pie from small pub deep in the back country of Ireland. The skillet presentation and rustic style was a perfect touch. Meach's has landed in Ortonville and will take over the...
Read moreThe atmosphere here was beautiful and my server was genuinely sweet — she had great energy and I really appreciated that. The food was delicious and well-seasoned. But unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by how the manager, “Niko” (him/her) handled a simple situation.
I ordered a lavender lemon drop, but it tasted overwhelmingly of alcohol — none of the lavender or lemon balance I expected. I kindly asked if I could return it, and instead of explaining the policy or asking what I’d like to do, the drink was simply taken away. I was still charged for it.
When I asked about the charge, the manager came over extremely aggressively — saying, “YOU asked to speak to a manager,” and insisting there was “nothing wrong with the drink,” as if the issue was me. I calmly explained that I’ve had lemon drops before and they’re usually sweet and balanced. She told me she’d take it off this time, but not next — like I was trying to scam them.
The drink was still full when the server took it away, instead of offering any options or having the manager explain their policy. Had I known I’d still be charged, I would’ve just kept it and made the best of it.
Good service is about listening and treating people with respect — not blame or aggression. I wasn’t rude, I wasn’t demanding. I simply didn’t enjoy the drink and tried to address it the right way. The drink wasn’t the problem — the management’s attitude was.
This place is beautiful and the food is good, but the customer care is severely lacking. Other reviews mention the same issue with management. It’s a shame to lose customers — and money — over poor leadership. No one deserves to be spoken to that way. Always remember: you never know who you might be...
Read moreFirst time I went my wife got the BBQ Mac and cheese which tasted exactly like dish soap. I got a burger and asked for it medium rare and the waitress put down rare and my burger looked like it was put on for maybe 1 minute a side it was very raw. They didn't charge my wife but said they had to charge me because I took to many bites (3 bites). But they gave us a gift card for the value of my Wife's meal. The general manger also told us that its impossible for the mac and cheese to taste like soap and that they've sold so many of them today. We asked her to taste it since my wife only took 2 bites one on the edge and in the middle. But she refused which i get it she doesnt know us but dont say that it cant taste like soap and make us seem like we are trying to scam them. We went back about a month later hoping for better results. The 2nd time the food was better. I got chicken tenders and my wife got a salad (we played it safe). But we were there for 2 hours on a Wednesday night. The restaurant wasnt that packed maybe at %50 capacity. The waitress was to busy talking to other wait staff and the cooks or cleaning behind the bar which we arrived at 7pm. The place wasn't very packed. But they are very pricey it's about 20 bucks for any meal with fries on the low end. It's a very weird place being called meachs pit stop and having everything dirty bike themed for menu names but is a slightly nice restaurant feel on the inside but also has a full bar with mixed slushy cocktail machines like a 7/11. It's a very confusing atmosphere. This was about 2 months after they opened we had this experience. We debated on making a post but other people that we know have had similar...
