SO much wrong with this place!!!! -Be Advised- #1- The Catfish/Shrimp plate has 1 small piece of fish and 4 shrimp that were medium size at best. HORRIBLE portions for the price. #2- The "dark" Gumbo was so dark light could not escape its surface. It was like Gumbo concentrate. It burned my throat it was so strong. If you add two parts water, it would make it gumbo - BUT - it would not fix that there was hardly ANY seafood. I found one small shrimp. Not one crawfish. If there was crab, I couldn't taste it. I should have just thrown my money in Bayou Teche. #3- I asked for ketchup and got ONE TINY plastic ramekin HALF filled. The server was completely clueless that the entire table started laughing when we saw it. It was honestly comical. #4- The fish and shrimp had NO flavor. The fish had to be eaten with a fork because it would fall apart when you touch it and all the batter would fall off. I can't believe that place with the name and location is this bad. It gives Cajuns a bad name to visitors. Yes, it was that bad. Seriously. I really wanted it to be the new go to for out of state visitors, but kyawww it ain't...
Read moreI have never NEVER left a review. But something has to be said!! I was born and raised in Louisiana. I used to frequent the old Randols, and THAT food was good. I have no idea what happened, but their food was horrible!!!! The shrimp and corn bisque had an unappealing sourness to it. I ordered it expecting to have a rich indulgent soup… instead I got a vinagery mess! The alfredo sauce also had such a weird brightness to it. As someone who makes her own alfredo sauce, this stuff was so bad! It had a sour taste to it. My husband got the grilled chicken it was tough and tasted of propane. The crawfish etouffee tasted like nothing but tomato and salt.
We were visiting with our family who drove here from ALASKA!!! And they were totally underwhelmed. The only good experience was the alligator bites and the spinach dip.
Service was decent though it seemed like the waitresses didn’t communicate well with eachother. The atmosphere was very warm. Not sure if that’s because it’s an old building our what, but we were fanning ourselves the...
Read moreI'm so happy to see Randol's back in business! This new incarnation of the Lafayette legend opened in January of this year (2024), three years after the original closed. It's still owned by the same family, and we took the time to congratulate them on their new location. The food is still delicious, but we were saddened to see that the menu offered fewer choices than before. (We hope this is just a temporary situation as they adjust to their new location.) A couple of old favorite dishes that remained (for example, the crawfish half-and-half) also seemed to offer smaller portions than before, but we again hope this is part of the readjustment. My family has missed this place, and we celebrate its return and look forward to it hitting its...
