I have been coming to Silver Flash for many many years. My mother and I would come when it was on the corner of 147th and Kedzie (where Walgreens is now).
Pros: The new owner did a good job of fixing the place up. I love the red plates and red napkins and red seats. It gives the place a nice "pop." The food is also good, although a lil pricey. The cakes are delicious! The french fries are nasty. They don't cook all the way thru or something.
Cons: I went there one day at around 1pm on a Wednesday and sat at the bar, where I always sit. A guy told me that I had to move to a table because the bar was reserved for people buying alcoholic drinks. I was insulted and I left. There was no one sitting at the bar at the time, so it made no sense to ask me to move. And what crowd does the owner think is coming in to guzzle down alcohol at 1pm on a Wednesday? I could see if it were happy hour between the hours of 4pm and 6pm, but seriously, 1pm?? I came back a couple of weeks later and sat at the bar. The guy was not there and the wait staff told me I could sit at the bar any time, regardless of the policy. Even the wait staff rolled their eyes at that rule. Another con, she fired the cook that had been working for Silver Flash for 30 years. However, she realized she made a huge mistake with that decision and hired him back. A few people mentioned his firing on the restaurant's FB page and the owner blocked them, which I thought was a tad immature.
Silver Flash is a breakfast and lunch place. It's not meant to be a dinner place, staying open til 8pm serving $14 alcoholic drinks with live music on the weekends. Previous owners have tried it and it does NOT work. My prediction is the owner will get rid of the music, the drinks and close at 3pm everyday, and revert back to what Silver Flash originally was meant to be. I know the owner is trying to attract a different crowd, but the bread and butter are the regulars who have come in for years and who come for breakfast or lunch. That is who the owner needs to cater too.
Otherwise, it's a nice lil joint and they play good music on...

You can't beat the prices, service, or the coffee. A new owner recently purchased the business and gave the place a beautiful makeover. The food is still great, the service is still great (Sharon and Joanne are phenomenal), and the coffee is still spot on.
Drove past this spot a lot, with the intention to stop in and check it out. Always forgot about it, until today. Had the urge for something real simple a bowl of grits, some bacon, and a cup of coffee. Stopped in, walked up to the counter and placed a to-go order. When the waitress asked if I wanted my grits with butter, salt, and pepper, I knew at that very moment I had to come back and have a real sit down breakfast here. The simple meal I ordered was on point. Grits were nice and hot, the bacon was crispy, and the coffee served it's purpose. Small place with a very friendly ambiance, very clean, and good looking meals in front of customers.
As I said, I'll definitely be back for a sit down meal.
Stopped in for sit down breakfast this morning and walked out stuffed. I'm still full at 4:00 in the afternoon. Louisa was phenomenal and the food was great. ...
Read moreSo many great things about this restaurant I don't know where to start. The very nice waitress Oksana, said they have only been open 6 months. The outside is very nice and homey looking as well as the inside. Plenty of very easy parking too. I ordered the Veggie eggs Benedict, one of my favs and a pancake on the said to give a review. The Eggs Benedict was a huge plate, three eggs and the flavor was delish. The pancake wa very fluffy and just roght and syrup was tasty. I see that they serve lunch as well. I have some pictures of this extremely nice establishment. This is the kind of restaurant that was very popular back in the day and we need more of them. Great Job...
