I took my daughter and some friends here for the first time. Upon walking in we were greeted after 2 customers ahead of us were served. Confused on how the service options were, the cashier/order taker broke it done simply and helped us though their process. I ordered the double meat entree (brisket and chicken) with garlic mash, mac and cheese. My daughter and friend got the brisket, mac n cheese, cucumber salad. We all received corn bread as well. For sauces we all used the sweet sauce that was more of a liquid garnish, held a lot of nice flavor to it without being over powering. I chose the brisket because the cashier said she liked it. She had had it over places before and this was her favorite. I have sampled some prior to this in various other places in other states. For the balance of sweet, not too Smokey, and wasn’t drowning in a sauce: this hit home for my taste. The garlic mashed potatoes were perfect, I love mine with the skins in them which they do as well. The mac and cheese isn’t some over the top crazy thing. It’s large elbows in a sauce that has light seasoning to it. The corn bread: perfect! Soft, not dry, little sweet with a crumble texture…. The cucumber salad was different. I’m picky about my cold greens so I didn’t get this, I did however try some and I was shocked how wonderful it tasted. Usually the cucumbers are drowning in a vinegar sauce, this was not the case. Very light and the cucumbers still had a “snap” to them/not soggy.
I would describe the service as “quick, friendly”. They made an error on the side of one plate and fixed it. Also: the turn around time from paying to having your food was fast,… real fast.
When you look at the prices, initially you may feel the cost is higher than compared to other non-bbq facilities. It seemed the cost per plate against portion was beyond fair when we received our meals. We all went home with extras as well. The portions may seem larger than entrees you get at other restaurants, but compared to quality of the food and the addition of good service: I felt the cost was more than fair.
We drove 45 minutes to eat here on a weekend and we all agreed: worth it.
Thank you Goody Coles Staff for our wonderful...
Read moreNever again!! Although the food is great, the service is horrible. I ordered online, received a call that they were out of sides, when I arrived 45 minutes later, they refunded the entire order as they had nothing in our order but ribs. You can’t order a full rack of ribs online, you have to order it as part of a plate. Was told they could not do a triple meat plate with all ribs, you had to order a full rack - that wasn’t an option. Why was I not told when I was called that there was nothing that I ordered available? This is not the first time I have gone out of my way to order from here only to arrive and be told they don’t have the items in my order. It states on the website that they fill the order when it is placed - why wasn’t my order filled when it was placed?
The young man behind the counter stated “Oops, our mistake.” Offered no explanation when asked why the order was not filled when it was placed and why I wasn’t told the meats I ordered were not available? He also stated they had called me and I didn’t answer - I did answer and was only told there were no sides available. He snarky response - “ Did you see the lines we had today?”
This is not the first time I have been unable to get what I ordered even though I order long before closing - but this will be the last time I attempt to have a meal here, more because of the attitude that I got and the lack of effort to offer an alternative. I had always recommended Goody Cole’s to everyone that requests good BBQ - I will never...
Read moreI'm picky about BBQ and take it seriously when someone says they're the best. For frame of reference I've been to all the spots in Austin (not Franklin, didn't have a day to stand in line) and my favorite BBQ in the Northeast is Walrus & Carpenter in Bridgeport CT, BTs Smokehouse in Sturbridge MA, and Blue Ribbon in Arlington MA.
I'm new to NH and there's an awesome food scene here, but we're still looking for this place to be my "go to" BBQ spot. We got catering for a birthday party from Mojo's in Portsmouth and I thought it was pretty good, but when people told me about Goody Cole's and that I needed to try it, I was intrigued.
Compliment sandwich time, ready? Here we go: The food was cooked perfectly. It was unfortunately served on styrofoam plates and with the first bite you could taste the styrofoam in the food. My expectation was they'd serve it on paper like they do in TX or at least a paper plate. Next, everything needed salt. The meat, potato salad, jambalaya....everything except the cole slaw and corn bread. Cornbread was fantastic but I had to pay for it separate when I thought it came with my meat platter.
I wouldn't go back just because of the styrofoam plates. 2 stars admittedly feels low on here but Yelp says it means "Meh, I've had better" and 3 means it's "A-Ok". Google doesn't provide any scale on it's star's system. So can we settle...
