If I had to choose one word to summarize our food experience at Señor Tacos, it’d be flavorful. You’re greeted with warmth the moment you step in to the restaurant by the two young women working the front. They’re quick to bring complimentary chips & mouthwatering salsa to the table. From the first drop of salsa into your mouth, you know you’re about to have one of the most authentic Mexican food experiences in New Jersey (and arguably, the northeast). It’s not too salty nor heavy on the onion or garlic. Somehow they’ve perfected the right balance of tomato, onion, garlic, and jalapeño. And the texture? It’s the right amount of thick with the right amount of runny. They get all the ratios of a good salsa right.
Now, onto the main entrees. We got their three mole enchiladas, or as they’re written and called on the menu, enchiladas de tres moles. They consist of the following selection: pipián verde, pipián rojo, and mole poblano. The mole sauces are served on top of chicken enchiladas with a side of Mexican rice and black beans. I’m a self-proclaimed mole lover, so choosing this dish came easy to me. Fortunately, Señor Tacos delivered on their end. My favorite mole was definitely the mole poblano, enriched with dark chocolate and topped with sesame seeds. However, my partner really liked the pipian verde flavor, claiming the pumpkin seeds added a delightful crunch to the dish.
Overall, we’re extremely pleased and give it our highest recommendation. From a native Mexican, please give this restaurant a try if you want an authentic experience. You won’t regret it, but if you do regret it, then you’re likely just not used to real...
Read moreWe came for the tacos! Really enjoyed our visit (although it came with some hiccups that are typical with newly opened restaurants).
Overall, a nice little taqueria that finally opened up in our area. The staff are all polite and welcoming, the decor simple and the interior very clean.
We started off with complimentary chips and (homemade) salsa, which was really refreshing.
They ran out of Sidral (a carbonated apple soda drink) when we visited, so we got a water and a coke. Unfortunately, no fresh drinks like agua de horchata, tamarindo , etc at the time of our visit.
We ordered three dishes:
Tacos de birria: my wife loved it. A hearty beef taco trio with cheese, with a tasty consommé on the side.
Caldo de pollo (chicken soup)- loaded with veggies in a ginormous bowl.
Tacos de carne asada: the beef wasn’t seasoned but it was freshly grilled and sliced. The salsas that they offered were really delicious. There was plenty of beef steak with each bite. A bonus is the guac added into the tacos (a nice surprise)
My only wish was that the tacos would have had double layers of tortillas like you often see at Mexican taquerias (in particular, because they gave such a large serving of protein with the tacos!) Also, they were missing the signature grilled whole onions and raw radishes that you see in other users photos, which I’m guessing maybe they just ran out.
If you like SPICY, ask them for the “curtidos”- a blend of pickled red onions and habañero peppers. I’ve seen versions like this with jalapeño but never with habanero— it definitely brought the heat. Try some if...
Read moreHonest Feedback with High Hopes for Señor Tacos.
Señor Tacos serves some really good tacos, but I found the pricing a bit hard to justify. That being said, this feedback is entirely constructive because I genuinely believe this restaurant has the potential to serve the best tacos in the Bridgewater/Raritan area.
I spent over $60 for three taco orders (nine tacos total) and a small horchata. While I understand the costs of running a restaurant, I couldn’t help but feel that a small adjustment could improve both value and experience.
Rather than lowering the price, I’d suggest distributing the meat portion across four tacos instead of three. I found myself scooping up extra meat from my plate because the tortillas couldn’t hold it all. With an additional tortilla, that extra filling could easily make another taco, creating a more balanced bite.
As for the flavors, the meats were spot on—seasoned well and cooked to perfection. Both the chipotle and green salsas were delicious. However, the tortillas themselves could use some improvement, as they didn’t quite match the quality of the fillings.
One last note: the online menu was difficult to navigate. Given that the restaurant is called “Señor Tacos,” I expected tacos to be front and center on the menu, but I had to scroll quite a bit to find them. Making the online ordering experience more user-friendly would definitely enhance the overall experience.
Despite these minor critiques, I see a lot of potential here, and I’m looking forward to trying more options...
