I had heard good things about Barrett's in Bridgewater - waitstaff was nice enough and treated my family, with two young children, well when we walked in on a July Thursday, at dinner time. We were sat in the outdoor area, a picnic table placed right at the border where the interior floor meets the sand.
While the food was passable, and the waitress was super nice despite being loaded with tables, the experience was poor and I won't be back with my kids: while my young family was enjoying our time, the area several feet away from us, against the fence near the bathrooms, became populated with a dozen smokers. And, two patrons sitting at the interior bar, closest to the sandy area, began to smoke as well. There were no "smoking permitted" signs, there were no "ash trap" cans for the ashes, and butts, nothing to indicate smoking was permitted. And while I curse sometimes, I don't do so in the presence of my young kids. The group smoking was conversationally loud and cursing continually as they talked, with little ears only feet away.
I did look up the ordinance on smoking:
Smoking is allowed in an outdoor space if the outdoor space is:
At Barrett's, there is no physical separation between interior space and open space, the floor just ends without a wall or door. Plus, wind was carrying the smoke from the sandy space back into the interior of the bar, and of course past our table.
Very disappointed that the waitstaff and management, who were present in both interior and exterior spaces, enabled this behavior and allowed it to continue - especially the blue language with kids present. Several of the staff seemed to be friends with the smokers, so perhaps it's why such customer un-friendly actions were overlooked.
Will never eat in this establishment, and will absolutely tell friends and colleagues...

I visited on May 27 around 6:30 with a group of friends. The waiter who never gave us her name at the beginning but our receipts say her name was “Autumn C.” The waiter had an attitude problem all night. I watched her wait other tables and she did not look happy at all. I had ordered a bar pizza and so did another friend of mine, and when our food came. She initially thought the pizza I had ordered was for my other friend. However, the pizza was mine and she had told my friend “Oh the cooks forgot to put your pizza in, it’s going to be a while”. Looking back at it, it feels as if she did this intentionally. We had separate checks and everyone had their receipts and payment methods ready. As we were leaving, the server asked only me if I had paid for my meal, despite others also paying in cash and tipping in cash. I had noticed she reached in to the booth for where I was specifically sitting and had only my receipt in hand. None of this makes sense, because she charged all of our cards and gave use copy receipts to leave a tip. And beforehand I had flagged the waiter and said “hey, it looks like you charged me for something I didn’t get” and she reissued a receipt. Then she argued with me that she couldn’t find the receipt for my order but she knew what I had got which was the parm hero. I had told her, “What do you mean you cant find it my total was $17.12 and i tipped $2.88 making the total $20”. I don’t remember her excuse was after that but I had asked for a manager and explained to her the whole situation.
Being the only black person in the group, this made me feel singled out and uncomfortable because it was unprofessional of how she yelled out loud in the busy restaurant asking me this bizarre question. It felt like an unfair assumption was made based on my race.
I hope that you guys can provide staff training to ensure that all customers are treated equally, regardless of their race. Everyone should feel welcome...
Read moreI can't even begin to express how utterly awful my experience was at Barrett's Alehouse Bridgewater. From the moment I walked in, I knew this was going to be a disaster. First of all, the hostess had the audacity to ask me to wait a whole five minutes before seating me, as if my time wasn't valuable.
Once I was finally seated, things only got worse. I ordered a simple salad, but when it arrived, it looked like it had been tossed on the floor before being dumped onto the plate. I could practically taste the resentment from the kitchen staff. And to make matters worse, my drink was spilled all over the table by the careless waiter who didn't seem to care about the mess he was causing.
But the real kicker was what happened next. As I was trying to salvage my terrible meal, I noticed a group of staff members gathered around a table, laughing and pointing at me. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw one of them actually spit on my plate! It was beyond disgusting and completely unacceptable. I immediately demanded to speak to the manager, who seemed more interested in making excuses than addressing the issue.
And if that wasn't enough, imagine my shock when I overheard a conversation at the table next to mine about babies being kidnapped! It's like this place attracts nothing but trouble. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.
I would strongly advise anyone considering eating at Barrett's Alehouse Bridgewater to think twice. The service is deplorable, the staff is rude and disrespectful, and the overall experience is nothing short of a nightmare. Save yourself the trouble and find a different place to dine. This establishment should be ashamed of itself for allowing such a disgraceful...
