China House — Restaurant in Brodhead

So glad to have a good Chinese/Asian place back in Brodhead! The menu is even bigger and better than the previous Chinese restaurant that occupied the space. The food is about what you expect when you get Americanized Chinese takeout, which is a compliment - I love Chinese takeout! The sauces are good and flavorful, and the service is fast and no-nonsense. The potstickers, egg rolls, chicken and beef teryaki, sesame chicken, and General Tso's chicken are all pretty spot-on. The crab rangoons are serviceable. The serving sizes for the dinner items are generous - will be eating the leftovers for dinner tonight, and they will be ample. I thought I had eaten some bad Chinese food in the past. This greasy spoon is the only Chinese restaurant to get a review so maybe it will save someone from the worst meal of their life. It takes a lot of work to make crunchy crab Rangoon. Oops no crab or flavoring. Just cream cheese in a grease laden wonton folded over. The spring roll was not throughly cooked. The fried rice was burnt and greasy. We asked for no mushrooms and right on top of the Szechuan Chicken was a big mushroom in all his glory. Happened to be in town for an event, so decided to try this place. It's small with a few tables; primarily a take-out place, in fact, 3 parties came in to get take-out while we were there. But the smell of grease when we walked in the door should have tipped us off that this was perhaps not going to be the quality we were expecting. For starters, the crab rangoon we ordered tasted like old grease.
