I have been going to down the hatch for many many years and always look forward to the food, drinks and atmosphere. Today it all changed for me. Myself and 2 friends went to the hatch to enjoy our day off from work and beautiful weather. They sat us at a table in the back all the way near the water. Server was nice and attentive. Once we were done with our meals, we continued to enjoy our conversation and drinks (2 drinks a piece). The server came to our table and stated the manager wanted us to move to a different table in order for them to shut our market umbrella due to wind. There was NO WIND. We questioned it at first but then We obliged and moved tables. We looked around and no other customers were asked the same nor were their umbrellas shut. About 5 min after we moved the server went back to the table and opened the umbrella and sat a man and his son down at the table they just asked us to move from. My guests and I were surprised and asked what happened. The server kindly said she was only following her managers request. One of my guests became reasonably upset and questioned why we were asked to move for no reason. The server then offered us drinks on the house for compensation which I refused. I decided to leave due to the poor customer service but my guests stayed. I later received a call from one of my friends stating the manager again requested they move their table for no reason and asked how much longer they would be as there was a line of customers waiting to be seated. We arrived at 12:05 and this happened at 1:15pm. We were only there an hour and change. I am flabbergasted by the poor customer service we received today and no reason for it whatsoever. I will NEVER return nor will my guests. I will also inform the community of how poorly we’re were treated...
Read moreMy husband and I stumbled upon this gem of a place totally by accident earlier today. We were in the mood for some fresh sea food so when Google suggested, we decided to go check it out. The sight of a smiling chimney and aroma of delicious food as we approached gave us confidence we had made a good choice. as we walked down the ramp we could hear live reggea music and steel pans....the island vibes were complimentary of our sea food craving. The dining room was closed but the deck/patio was packed!!! obviously no one wants to eat outside in this great weather especially when the deck overlooks a gorgeous lake. Half of the outdoor area is self service. we sat there and had a shrimp platter that was amazing....so crunchy and delicious. we later moved to the server area because the menu was more varied. We ordered the codfish sandwich(they should do a different bread) and the mahimahi sandwich which had a delicious mango salad. All the while, the band played great island tunes...mostly reggea and calipso. The staff never seemed overwhelmed by the huge crowds. we loved that sitting was on first come basis. Our server in particular was fantastic....very attentive, helpful and fast. He addressed us by name the whole time despite serving so many other people....impressive! His name is matt. Sadly,as far as we know, the bad was a one time thing.
If you're looking for an unpretentious, simple. outdoors place to eat....this is it. I...
Read moreA staple on the lake for many years now! Down the hatch is both accessible from the road w/car parking as well as by boat. (Find a spot and tie up in the back and the dock leads you right up to the outdoor seating!) On nice days/nights it’s definitely a hotspot, so you might expect to wait a little for your table but it’s no problem. They’ve got a great bar you can grab a drink from and enjoy the lake views. The menu as you’d expect has a lot of great seafood options. (Ahi tuna and Mahi mahi both great) but I’ve found this place is solid for non seafood options as well. Juicy burgers, an awesome Korean bbq chicken sandwich…haven’t had something I didn’t like. (If you’re into peppers, definitely get the blistered shishitos to start!) I finished my meal off with an oreo pie and all right for the sail on back home. Highly recommend checking this spot out if you’re in the area, it defines the charm of...
