African Deli - Brooklyn Center, MN #africanfood #foodreview

This was my first time in African deli I was greeted, and the man took the time to explain to me the difference between two dishes that I was looking at. I was very pleased with the customer service. I ordered the fried red kidney beans with fish and oxtail, which I had to pay extra for the oxtail, no problem, then I got some Jollof rice and I got some puff puff and a hibiscus pineapple tea. Each meal that I ordered was $13. I don’t know how much extra I pay for the oxtail or how much the puff puff was because I didn’t get the itemized receipt that I asked for they just gave me a receipt with the total of $40.16 on there (just to give some context on pricing). I ordered the tea later, it was $4. Grand total spent, $44.16. I was super excited about this food. When I got home I tried the jollof rice, it tastes like nothing but aluminum can tomato sauce, and the fish was okay. My fried red beans didn’t have the mild spice as requested but they were okay. The puff puff was slightly chewier than I am used to but they were okay too. All in all, I may give it a second chance because it wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t as flavorful as I am used to when it comes to African Food. 6/10

Wow! We stumbled upon this deli when we were looking at a different place to eat. Having never eaten African food before (aside from a very specific Ethiopian place in DC) we let the man who took our order decide what we should eat. He may have been the owner? He suggested the fufu with rice & chicken and plantains. He gave us a meat pie to try and it was out of this world delicious. We also had Bur (?). It's was a sweet bread roll that was really yummy. My husband had Jaffe rice with chicken. I thought mine was the tastiest! I'm glad we got there when we did because a lot of people came in after us. With so many people we knew we'd found a hidden gem. Very friendly, too! Next time we're in town we'll definitely go back!

My spouse got food from here couple days ago nd it was a disaster! The only thing I could say was edible to some extent was the meat pie and the Amala, and that was after I had to personally season the stew for the Amala, there was 0 spice nd flavor to it, the meat tasted ok tho. The ofada he got had stones in them! I mean with every bites! That is ridiculous considering the amount of money he spent getting all these to bring them back 3hrs, almost 4hrs away! And he got like double of everything considering there was he nd I.

The sauce for the ofada had no spice like ofada sauce should and no taste! The fish roll was tasteless, had great smell tho but no flavor. I did not even bother trying the egg rolls cause it was probably a disaster too with just boiled eggs.

I have been a customer at this restaurant for a long time, I even introduced my husband to the store nd I’ve always tried understanding when food did not tastes good but this was too bad!

How could someone sell that to customers paying money, I’ll say the ofada was the last straw for me! If you gonna sell ofada atleast pick them right or don’t sell them. Chewing on that much stone is ridiculous nd dissatisfying.

I wish I could get a refund for all we got cause they were not edible nd we ended up trashing most of them.

UPDATES: I do know what ofada rice should be and smell like! I never complained about the smell cause I am very familiar with how ofada rice should smell and I love the smell, I’m a Yoruba girl! But the stones? I know so well it can never be fully picked but it shouldn’t have that much stones or dirt in them With every bites! I ate ofada growing up nd you cannot tell me it’s supposed to be like that or maybe we were just more intentional about picking them right cause I didn’t chew on stones with every bites and have tasteless sauce to it! Maybe if the sauce was any better I would have gratefully ate it with white rice but it wasn’t.

I’ve been to different restaurants nd I try not to complain cause I understand how hard it can be selling food nd there are bad days as well but this wasn’t the first bad food experience we’ve had with African deli also considering we drive so far (3-4hrs) just to patronize you guys and I’ve never left any reviews cause something at-least tasted ok or edible nd was fixable. We’ve been a customer for over 3yrs! If the ofada didn’t have that much stones, I’ll have probably never left any reviews and just fixed the tastes myself but it was unfixable.

Such great customer service you got telling a paying customer to stay away from food they love just cause of your inadequacy nd unaccountability. Do better nd I’ll definitely be going...

I wanna start by saying I didn’t really know how to write the service because customer service was OK but I also had like maybe a 10 second interaction with him (The man taking my order) so in my eyes that wasn’t long enough to really gauge customer service now to the disappointing part I am very disappointed because I found this place by looking up African food on Google and I read the reviews and the reviews looked like OK. I mean there was some bad ones, but there was a lot of good ones so I said OK I’m gonna give this place a chance big mistake on my part I ordered cassava leaf and egusi soup with the puff puff and rice on the side, I want to start with the foo foo and the egusi. The foo foo literally tasted texturally off like the consistency was weird not what I’m used to at all more instant potatoes that were left out I don’t know how to explain it but that’s the best I can do. the egusi had no type of flavor which is crazy because I have never tried anything from West Africa that was flavorless and somehow they found away! my puff puff were oily and very chewy not what I’m used to. now to the very worst part of the meal the cassava leaf now cassava leaf happens to be one of my favorite West African dishes and when I tell you, there was no flavor it was as if they took canned spinach from the dollar tree and called it cassava I have never in my life try cassava leaf so tasteless processed literally it seemed like baby food it was so broken down no flavor no consistency. I can’t even believe they had the nerve to serve me honestly, I don’t know who the cook is but they need to find a new one. Can’t be the same cook from the reviews! I would never go back and I didn’t even try to get my money back because I just don’t have time for conflict, but I would never go here again and this is just a review so no one makes the same...

This restaurants seriously needs to be closed down last night my husband and his friend went there and Patrick the owner put out a fire arm started that he was moving it. There was a patient waiting for collard green my husband said he ordered.I don't know he was angry at somebody God only knows his mind set my husband backed up with his friend to the door and Patrick said if anybody comes over a mess around that you'll blow them to The head with the fire with a gun. After Patrick said that he began to bring out a gun license permit and started showing off ...

I've been going there for last 10 years my husband and his friend saying they have not seen something like that we don't know his intention he could be dangerous he could be after somebody.

This a very dangerous place to be he also stated that 7 other stores all have firearms and guns.

This African restaurant has been having an upside down is not a pleasant place to be hopefully they closed them down pretty soon because it seems very dangerous even the floors are broken and not able care of the right way.

Please be advised not to go to this restaurant you could be you that is coming against he could be seen in a different way to warm somebody with a firearm but be very extremely careful I would highly recommend that's go to this restaurant there is 3 other Nigerian restaurants in the town

Please be advised we could be you you could be...
