I have been going to La Fondas in brown city forI have been going to La Fondas in brown city for well over 2 years. I always loved the food. Then they changed the menu. Nothing wrong with that because they told me I could get what I always did. Then the price went from 7.99 to 10.95 plus they started charging extra for the guacamole. Which add another 1.99. Which I also understood prices go up. My husband always was ordering seafood chimichangas. He loved them. Then they started serving it with a ton of fish. So he started ordering the cheese chorizo. He's been having it for a while and tonight when he got it. It was TOTALLY different taste. It didn't taste anything like what he had gotten before. We sent it back after only two bites. Then I had received my order. I told the waitress I couldn't have sour cream but I always get it on the side for my husband's tacos he gets. I got my meal and it had sour cream every where and hardly no guacamole. Then we get the bill the cook said there was nothing wrong with the chorizo and he left it on the bill. Needless to say we paid the bill and we will never be back. The only thing they have left to offer is only one nice waitress Kristine. We will miss her but won't miss the food. well over 2 years. Read moreI have been here before and it wasn't this bad. First, the place had 4 -5 other tables with guests. As we went to sit, the waitress warned us of salsa on the floor right by the corner base of our booth. We thought she may come back and mop it up or something. It was a spill the size of a dinner plate. Nope. It was there under foot the whole visit. We ordered guacamole as we sat down. She said it would come with the salsa & chips after we ordered (aren't I ordering now?) It arrived over 10 minutes after the salsa and chips. The ordering: my daughter ordered 2 Mexican steak tacos. I said, "I'll have two Mexican tacos, the same as her". Second daughter repeated "the same" and then I said my youngest daughter would also have the same. (That's 8 Mexican steak tacos). Somewhere it may have been asked about a chicken taco and the waitress was asking if my youngest wanted rice and beans too. 😶 I was confused because nobody had ordered a "Dinner", "Meal", "a side" or "rice & beans". The waitress was ordering us all the 3 taco dinner, even though we had clearly asked for two tacos (only). This would have added about $6 each, padding our bill $24!! Uhg. The bill said the waitresses name is Leah. You have been warned. So we have the salsa on the floor, the attempt to pad our bill, the extreme length of time for the food to make it to our table (tacos took about 25 minutes)... Now let's talk about the food. We added salt and pepper several times to the food. All Of It. The guacamole was mostly avocado. The salsa was mainly tomatoes. The tacos came with a sauce that was flavorless. My daughter dipped her finger into it to test the heat level. My other daughter asked what it tasted like. "Nothing" was the response. So then we all tasted it. She was right! It was like water with a touch of red and a couple of seeds. The taco was ok but had little taste. That tells me the cilantro was old, the steak had been massively over cooked and the onions were cut a long time ago. The whole dinner was so tasteless. The whole experience was...
Read moreThe food was incredible! The hours are a bit unusual in a way that may harm the business (11-7 on four non-consecutive days), but the server was very pleasant and attentive and didn't keep us waiting too long for anything we asked for. I would've loved an indicator on the menu (which looks a little dated, but that's just an aesthetic issue) for the spiciness levels of different items, but the only thing that was too much for me was a sauce that was served on the side, so a quick test let me know to just leave it alone.
Despite my nitpicks, this would have been a perfect review if not the for the odd hours (opening a bit late, closing too early, only open for just over half the week); I will happily say, though, that this was the best-tasting meal I've had in town so far, they have plenty of inexpensive options, and I definitely plan on...
