Can't say enough good things about this place! Check their facebook page for current hours and menus. According to our waitress the menu can change on a weekly basis, as well as the hours. Our waitress was so nice and didn't miss an opportunity to refill our drinks. The atmosphere was quaint and gave homey, small-town vibes. Both of us enjoyed the food as well! I ordered the brisket, and for the money I spent, I thought I would get much much less. But I got several strips of smokey, juicy, and delicious meat with great sides. They are generous with their portions, as well as their smiles! If they are open at a convenient time for you, I'd highly recommend stopping in. I will be back!

The service and food was good. The tomato bisque soup had a strong tomato flavor, I personally prefer a bisque with a creamy base. The gumbo had a tomato base similar to that of a vegetable soup. The chicken salad on a croissant was a bit runny but had great flavor with bits of celery for a good crunch and the coleslaw was real good. The portion of meatballs and gratin potatoes was huge. The potatoes didn't have any sign of cheese and they were a bit dry, like the consistency of dry mashed potatoes. The meatballs had a good flavor and were good sized. I liked the art work displayed on the walls.

Yes, The Lyceum is really open. The menu is limited and changes daily, but the food is delicious and the service is great. Brownville is such a beautiful and historical place, we need to support all efforts to help keep this community alive and vibrant. The Lyceum is quirky, unexpected and fun! Also, new art displayed often, and it's all available for sale.

This is an interesting Cafe an book store, new and vintage, I was not aware of the word Lyceum, so I asked the owner and she explained that Lyceum was an eatery where intellectuals came to meet, have a good meal and discuss books, such as the classics, also such authors as Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, Sylvia Platt etc. They would talk for hours, discussing their opinions, writing form, technique and much more. The name has remained over many years. We found it to be a wonderful stop on our journey through Brownville . This town sets on the banks and wood covered hills of the Missouri River. It tends to be artsy and somewhat Bohemian which I fell in love with years ago on my 1st visit. This town had a lot of damage from the 2018 flood. However it recovered and I believe it is in better condition than ever. Thank God. If you get to Brownville we hope you...
