They were closed for a couple of months...not sure why, but they are open again. Pancho Villa has been my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant. The food is very authentic and I've never had a bad meal here over my many many visits.
Now you're not paying for a view as the place is basically an old gas station that was converted to a restaurant but they did spruce it up with a Mexican flavor to make it feel like you could be in Tijuana (if you squint a little). The parking is decent and the service is always great. They give you nacho's and the best salsa which is great as you instantly are relaxed while you read their extensive menu.
They haven't posted specials in a while but one time they posted a Flag Burrito special and I got it with steak (carne asada) and I've been hooked ever since. The red sauce is great, the Salsa Verde' is fantastic but the white sauce knocks my socks off. It is my absolute favorite meal of all time. I still order it even though it's not on the menu and they never even flinch. It is just soooo good.
We usually get a couple of house Margarita's and they are always good.
The guacamole is always perfect, they really know what they are doing with this dish.
The chicken taquitos appetizer is really good and my wife will get it for her meal. There's plenty there and the dough is more like a dinner roll, not quite as soft but not so dense like other places we've tried. Just a good taquito.
The mole pobplano is something you got to try. Don't let the chocolate scare you off, they make it just right. Not too sweet, not too spicy, just the right mix and it will really pop up those taste bud with a flavor sensation. Definitely worth a try. It's very good.
I've tried many menu items over the years and I've never been disappointed. You won't go wrong no matter what you get. Everything is very authentic and drop dead delicious.
They did go up on their prices after the pandemic, but all in all the prices are decent, the place is clean (but it is old and it shows), and I stand by my view that Pancho Villa is the absolute best Mexican restaurant in Maine, (maybe in...
Read more-Guacamole was fresh and awesome. -The waitress was super sweet- she is the reason I’m not leaving 1 star. -we were a party of 7 so we knew the food would take a little bit however 3 of the meals were kids meals (chicken nuggets(2) and a burger). 2 of the adult meals were burgers and then remaining 2 adult meals were chimichangas. It took over an hour to get our food. Oh and only 3 other tables had people at them 1 of which had their food when we arrived and 1 showed up as we were getting our food. So absolutely no reason why it should take that long. -I ordered 1 chimichanga with fajita chicken instead of pulled chicken. I received 2 chimichangas, both with shredded chicken. The waitress offered to have them make me another. Of course I declined because I just waited over an hour. I’m not waiting another hour and having the rest of my party wait too. -No manager came to apologize, nothing. To make it even better the manager walked by numerous times and didn’t speak a word, while seeing a full plate of food pushed to the side. -the food was on my bill! 🙄 not today! I had the girl make the adjustment. I’m not paying for food I’m not eating. -they sell burgers but apparently do not have pickles or mayo to go on them. This was definitely a disappointment.
We drove 40 minutes specifically to go to this Mexican restaurant because it was “authentic” and had awesome reviews. My husband’s chimichangas had American cheese in it. They come with red sauce on them instead of queso- we had to ask for the queso instead. Enchiladas come with red sauce (or green). Salsa was subpar at best. Unsweet tea was water with color. Not even the slightest taste of tea at all. Had 2 other people try it as well thinking maybe something was wrong with my taste buds...nope. Very disappointing.
Best part was the guac and our server and at that she’s the one who didn’t put in the fajita chicken so yeah there’s that too.
We will...
Read moreBoyfriend and I went here for dinner, and neither of us can believe that this place has so many great reviews. Everything was so flavorless. Salsa was very liquid, and barley had any texture or flavor. Pico de Gallo on his taco was just diced tomato, no cilantro or onion to be found. I had one of their burritos with pastor (pork); $10 for a tortilla filled with dry rice and grocery store-quality refried beans, featuring just enough unseasoned and unflavored pork to pass it as a pork burrito. I would have rather spent $10+ on a smaller burrito with more pork and less filler than to have spent this money on something so obviously meant to just fill you up so you walk away feeling satisfied. There aren't many restaurants we walk away from this unhappy, let alone Mexican style ones. We didn't believe it at first because of all the great reviews, but ultimately I couldn't keep from...
