I visited this location while attending a conference in Port Allen on Saturday, March 11, 2023. The customer service was professional and friendly. The waitresses were very pleasant and allowed our party to remain in the store as they closed and began cleaning up. The restaurant was clean and several patrons visited with their families.
Things not liked. I really wanted to enjoy my food but I was disappointed. I thought it was just me but several people in the party said their dishes were dry and/or not flavorful. I ordered hummus and the Vegetarian Plate. The plate came with Eggplant moussaka, spinach pie, grape leaves, a feta salad, rice pilaf, and pita bread. I enjoyed the salad, pita bread, and spinach pie but was disappointed by the other items. I absolutely love hummus and I was excited to eat this. I was disappointed with the hummus. I couldn't put my finger on what it was but something was missing.
Things liked. My husband ordered the Mediterranean Salad and Adass (Lentil Bean) soup. He was very pleased with his soup and salad. It tasted flavorful. However, be warned if you don't want a lot of soup, order the cup and not the bowl.
The Chicken Curry was a win for the night. Because it was a large party, we sampled each other's dinner. Everyone agreed that they wished they would have opted for the chicken curry. Paired with the rice pilaf, this dish was a winner.
The Lebanese tea was delicious. Several people order it and was pleased with it. I didn't realize it had dairy until it was too late. However, I didn't experience any adverse affects from this.
Summary If I am ever in Port Allen or New Orleans, I would visit this restaurant again. I would likely order a soup, salad, and...
Read moreI have found myself in Brusly almost daily in the past few months and I have gotten take out from Athenos twice. The food here is standard Lebanese fare, but the quality is impressive and the quantity is as well. Both times I had a lamb kebab plate. The lamb was well seasoned and almost melted in my mouth! The accompanying salad was very flavorful with an oil-based dressing (versus the creamier dressing type that some restaurants serve). The hummus was creamy in texture with just the right amount of flavor.
My experience with the service was minimal as I walked in and ordered takeout and waited, but the first time I came in almost as they were closing the doors, yet the young lady behind the bar took my order and was pleasant and courteous. They second visit I enjoyed chatting with a young man while I waited for my food. Just a very nice experience start to finish with a very full belly! Also, I waited for less than 20 minutes both times from door to door. In my opinion, it is rare to get food of such great quality that fast! Do yourself a favor and visit Athenos for great Lebanese cuisine in Brusly on the west side of the Mississippi River near...
Read moreHave you ever had hot chocolate in the winter? The welcoming warmth of the hot chocolate as you sip away, slowly, sip by sip, and poomf, gone. Where did it go? In your stomach. Or what about shaved ice in the summer? You get your little spoon and you get your cute little scoop of that ice. You savor the moment when the refreshing ice hits your tongue. Surely, it would last a while? Nope. You feel as if only a minute has passed, yet it's all gone. Dang, I wish I had more. That feeling? That's the feeling I get when I order at Athenos. That feeling when you think it'll last a while, but it's so good you don't realize you've ate most of it in but a brief moment. That feeling of satisfaction during your meal at Athenos that leaves you guilty when you finish it. Why didn't I buy another one? I highly reccomend...
