I wanted to give this place a 5 star rating, but unfortunately our experience wasn't as expected. We ordered the hummus as an appetizer and 2 orders of fish and chips as entrees. After about a 20 min wait, we got the hummus. A minute later we get the fish and chips. So we're there trying to eat the appetizer we paid for while our entrees are getting cold. The hummus is made in house, but unfortunately, it isn't very great. We ate it because it's $8.50, but I wouldn't order it again. It came accompanied by pita bread, veggies, and garlic bread rounds. Unfortunately, some of the garlic bread rounds were very, very stale.
The fish and chips were good. It was kind of awkward when the waitress told me "they forgot one of your fish in your order. They'll bring it out when it's ready." So like 5 mins later, they brought out the other piece of fish. But that's not why I'm giving them 3 stars.
When it came time to leave, we couldn't get a hold of the waitress. We needed a box and there wasn't anyone to be found. After 5 mins of waiting there, we finally got ahold of a waitress to get one for us. Then, she brings the box but no check. We waited another 10 mins before she came back and we asked for the check. After about 5 more mins she brings the check and we cash out. Then we realized they charged us for an additional appetizer we didn't order. Getting ahold of the waitress took another long while. When we finally told her what happened she said she'd get it taken care for us. It took 15 mins for her and the manager (or owner) to remake the check. We finally got the corrected one and got out of there.
All in all, we loved the fish and chips but hated the service. The layout in there is very strange, as there seems to only be one enterance into the kitchen and a big, round bar in the middle of everything. The eating area itself is very, very small, with about 9 tables in total to eat at. It's no wonder why there were people waiting by the door looking for a table.
They don't have any drinks that I can't get somewhere else and the service needs to improve. I wouldn't come back here unless I was craving fish and chips, and even then I'd...
Read moreIt's a small neighborhood spot with a bar and several tables and chairs around it for groups, etc. It's not a big place so don't go expecting something huge. Depending on the size of your group you may want to call them first and they'll put some tables together for you. If you just show up on a Friday night with a large group and expect to be seated right away you will be disappointed so don't do it and save yourself the grief. It can also get kind of loud because once again it's a small place and it's also a bar so don't complain about loud voices and bad language... It's a BAR, not a bookstore. There's a great thing about this place that I really enjoy, they don't allow children and babies inside even when accompanied by adults. Some people have an issue with this but there's absolutely no place for children and babies at bars or even restaurant/bars so stop bringing your kids out. Leave them at home or with a sitter! They have no business out for drinks and dinner. No one wants to see or deal with your kids while they're out having drinks and dining out, it's as simple as that. Now that I got that out of the way, we'll move on to the rest. The service here is very good. The bartenders are friendly and fast and the servers are great too. That being said it can get very crowded and loud so don't expect a 5 star experience. If you communicate properly with your server or bartender they will get you taken care of. But please understand, there are many other people in here trying to do the same thing you are so be patient and everything will go fine. The food is the best thing here. They have a Rueben sandwich, a burger, fish n chips, and a few other appetizers and dinner items. They don't have alot of items but the ones they do have are EXCELLENT and that's all that matters. The Rueben Sandwich is the best and the fish n chips are great too. The prices here are average for the great quality they serve. My bill was about $100 for 2 people drinking alot and eating for two and I gladly tipped an additional $30. Overall a great experience and given all the info I have just reported you should have a...
Read moreThe first few times I went here, it was great. I thought I'd found my new favorite restaurant. So, for my anniversary on a Sunday lunch, I brought my kids and parents. The owner seemed upset that we were there (there was literally no one else there yet), and he was pretty rude about where he wanted us to sit (not at the picnic tables, but only on the deck) We ordered my favorites -- fish 'n chips, pretzels, burgers, etc. It took a really, really long time for the food to come out, and perhaps it was the amount of fish we ordered (three servings), but the fish was not very good at all (chewy and hardly cooked), and the other items were good, but definitely not spectacular. I will say that their fries were very good.
After we were finished, we were ignored for a while and none of the kids got any drink refills, and then the server or owner added an automatic 20% gratuity. (I've seen this where large parties want multiple bills, but I've always thought it was really over the top to charge an automatic "gratuity" which defeats the entire point of the tip, and it's ridiculous that they did this on a single bill with my young kids and my elderly parents!) The final bill was over $120 for a bar food meal that we ate outdoors that wasn't even very good to begin with. I'm normally a very big tipper, but that was the last straw and we haven't been back.
The Angry Elephant and Chris's both have much better service and food a few hundred yards away, and for fish and chips and awesome soft pretzels, check out Moe's Irish Pub down...
