I so wanted to like this place, after reading other reviews, but our experience was not not what we are used to and we will not be going back. I'll start with the food. He biggest sl disappointment... we ordered 2 plates. Catfish, greens, mac and cheese/ catfish, cabbage, mac and cheese, and yams and topped them off to share peach cobbler. The catfish was over cooked and looked like it had been cooked in old crying grease that needed to be changed out. Both the cabbage and the greens were over cooked, but in the upside the cabbage was well seasoned. The mac and cheese lacked much cheese at all. Neither of us ate it. The sweet potatoes were the best thing we ate and unfortunately I'm unable to review the peach cobbler because though we paid for it, when we got home it was not included with our order. The rest of the food was so unimpressive that the peach cobbler that could have tasted great seemed like it would be a waste of a 25 minute drive one way to go back to get it. Soul Food of Dacula is definition in out top 2 worst soul food restaurants. Which says a lot, because I've had soul food from Detroit, Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahom, Kansas, Alabama, South/ North Carolina's, Georgia, Arkasas, Virginia, even Florida, etc. There are many other soul food restaurants in Georgia that i would recommend the public experience with better portion sizes and tastes. Maybe this was just a bad day for the restaurant, but our left is feeling cheated so much so that we ordered pizza for dinner because we didn't eat what we had just paid for and didn't want to get back out in the Saturday traffic. Some restaurants that have been good for us have been FlavorTown (ox tails), K&S Jerk Shop (jerk ribs and red velvet cake). They gave been consistently good and they have great mac and cheese. Hope this review helps anyone with a taste for soul food in the Dacula/...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDidnāt get half of what we ordered. Took over a hour and a half (not grubhubs fault. Driver actually came up to apologize cause he had to wait) what did get wasnāt really that good. Containers half full and barely a piece of catfish on a double entree order. $64 INCLUDING a discount. Not even worth half of that. Grubhub refunded but we now have to wait for food from somewhere else so we can actually have dinner. No seasoning or flavor.
Iāve been in Georgia for ten years. Pretty sure the Cracker Barrel I ordered is more soulful. I may be from up north but I know good southern food and this isnāt it.
Also there is zero way that cake isnāt out of a box. Taste just like a Pillsbury cake mix. Iām a baker and know the difference pretty well.
The portions received to what is shown from other peoples pictures arenāt even close to half.
Response to owner:
Donāt worry there wonāt be a next time mostly after reading your response. The upcharge from grubhub wasnāt my complaint FYI. My complaint is the food isnāt good, you didnāt provide half the order that was paid for, AND as for the portions idk where to start. The pics Iāve seen of what other people posted are more than double what received (for the food we did get). Restruants set the price delivery apps charge to make up for the fees. I can accept that. I cannot accept being ripped off while paying more. But thank you for confirming we will not be attempting to try yāall again. Iām sure most your 5 star reviews are from people who know...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo this food was nothing to write home about. I got there around 3 pm because I missed lunch today. They spoke and answered the questions I asked and that was about it for the service. Nothing looked fresh other than the pork chops but I figured Iād try it anyways. I didnāt want to just turn around and walk out. Not the best idea Iāve had lately. I ordered and paid before I found the inspection report hiding behind the fire extinguisher. It did not lie. The food was barely warm and definitely not fresh. The pricing is a bit expensive compared to similar restaurants and the portions are much smaller. I ordered the pork chop which came with rice and collard greens. One chop. I ordered a meat that came with rice otherwise Iād have had an incomplete meal. The greens had no soul. It got lost someplace. I didnāt see any meat in them and I didnāt taste any. If youāre going to cook greens with turkey you MUST add seasonings to bring out the flavor. The pork chop was seasoned well but it tasted like it was cooked earlier this morning or maybe last night. They only offer one. The cornbread was very moist and sweet but I needed the greens to hit just right to go with it. Even the hot sauce did nothing for them. Iām disappointed. This place is going to have to quickly make some changes in order to be real competition with the others...
