Overpriced for the experience: We spent $80 for two adults and a toddler, which felt steep considering we usually spend around $60 at places like Outback or Texas Roadhouse for better food and service.
Disappointing steak: The $40, 12-ounce steak was mostly fat with very little meat. The seasoning was decent, but it couldn’t make up for the bad cut. My wife barely got a few bites in and went home hungry. The fries and potatoes were fine, but nothing better than what you could get from the freezer aisle at Walmart.
Uncomfortable atmosphere: There was no music, no other customers, and the staff seemed unsure of what to do when we walked in. They just stood there until we asked where to sit. When we finished and paid, the waiter simply walked to the back without saying anything. The whole experience felt awkward and just really weird.
We left feeling like the food and service didn’t match the price. It’s a shame because this place has potential to bring a lot of business into small-town Almo, but the low-quality food and service that we and others have experienced (looking at other reviews) seem to be doing the opposite. I know for us we now feel as though the limited options for edible food will unfortunately make ever coming back to Almo a...
Read moreMy partner and I spent a week around City of Rocks and ended up going here one night to eat while it was raining. Boy, what a mistake that was!
I ordered the cheesesteak sandwich, which I figured would be a safe bet from a steak house. Something seemed a bit bizarre about the flavor when I was eating it, but didn't think much of it at the time. I chalked it up to some flavoring on the mushrooms and onions and finished anyways. Wrong choice.
I woke up the next day to some terrible feeling and violent rumblings in my insides. I'll spare the gory details, but the next 48 hours were spent on the toilet. Completely ruined any times of being able to enjoy City of Rocks, as I couldn't be more than a few minutes from a bathroom at any given moment. The GI pain persisted well into the third day as well.
The ONLY, and I mean only redeeming thing from my experience at Almo Outpost is that the waitress we had was nice.
The old reviews were apparently when this establishment was under different ownership - the photos of the pies and food in previous reviews are not what you'll be getting.
Please, heed my warning and avoid this place at all costs. Unless of course you enjoy spending money to poop your brains out for...
Read moreI cannot express how disappointing the service was and the poor quality of food on our last visit, the week of June 16. I wrote to management to express our concerns because we have been coming to the Almo Inn and Steakhouse for about 10 years now. The wait staff was sullen, my grandsons macaroni and cheese was poor quality and came with a bag of cheetos. We had a steak that was such poor quality, they should have been embarrassed to present it, and for an outrageous price. The steak house use to be a part of the community, families would eat meals, scout troops would have dinners, but at the new high prices and poor quality, i cannot imagine the locals even bother anymore. It was such a bad experience, i really doubt we will bother coming back, and after not receiving any response from management other than more "farm to table cuisine" happy emails, which is such a long stretch from reality, it appears no one really cares anymore. Eat at Tracys, Rock City or Piggy Sue, but avoid this place unless you want to be depressed and charged urban prices for really poor quality food...
