Mixed on this establishment. But knowing its newer ( not even a year open yet) and there are many kinks to work out gives me hope that this restaurant will flourish with time.
We visited 3 different times during our short visit in Heyburn ( passing through in our RV to Utah). The atmosphere is beautiful, and being right on the river made our reason to return 3 times.
The food needs some work (but that also depends on who is cooking that day). The first visit - the BBQ chicken tacos were good (flavor was there and a decent portion or fries - although not the parmesan truffle fries I ordered - still good). 2nd visit - The bacon Jalapeño dip needs more flavor. Once I lifted the mounded block of melted cheddar off the top of the small dish and got to the cream cheese portion of the dip - it was just warm cream cheese with a few slices of pickled jalapenos added (a suggestion - finely chop a good portion of the pickled Jalapeño slices before adding to the mixture - add some cracked pepper, some salt, and add the shredded cheddar to the mixture AFTER warming the cream cheese vs baking it on top ). On our last visit I ordered the seared Tuscan chicken breast - There was nothing "seared" about the chicken, and although the flavor was good, everything on my plate SWAM in what was to be the spinach cream sauce and my broccoli side was swimming in butter that floated around my garlic mashed potatoes (that I asked to be omitted from the dish initially) that mixed with my spinach sauce. All in all - too much sauce on everything! ( I took a few bites and asked for a box to go)
The service - on 2 of the 3 visits - the service was great - why? because there were not more than 4 to 6 other customers in the establishment (which we found odd because of it's location, more of an upscale spot, AND right on the water) so we had the attention of the staff. We don't mind quiet - more for us! ;) On our final visit - extremely busy for a Tuesday during lunch hour, no real seating system in place (customers scattered outside, dining area, bar area, bar), along with the lack of staff it seemed. We sat at the bar for the final visit (as we did on our first visit) and the poor bartender was taking drink and food orders for the entire place as well as busing, and among other things ( we watched one of the cooks come out and deliver a table of food...uh, that's not supposed to be the way). The bartender looked like she was on the verge of tears, and it taking more than 20 minutes for a simple "single" vodka and soda being the only two sitting at the bar - unacceptable. The bartender should solely be "On the bar" taking care of drinks for the establishment and tending to the customers at the bar and in the bar area. All other areas of the establishment should be assigned to waitresses/waiters to cover - even if it's slow.
Having many friends and family in the industry and watching the amount of effort it takes to run this kind of business - PROPS TO YOU - we really do have high hopes for this establishment, because it's beautiful, and hope that over the next year ya'll can get in a good routine and make this place even better! If we ever make it back to Heyburn/Burley - we hope you're still in business and...
Read moreWe have been looking forward to going to Edgewater since we first started hearing about it. I am giving it 5 stars with some provisos.
First of all, the restaurant is gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful as a space. The music wasn't too loud, and you can easily visit. I'm looking forward to the summer, when we can go outside by the fire pits.
We had a fairly early mid-week reservation, and when we found ourselves finishing a prior commitment early, I called in to see if we could come a bit early. It wasn't a problem. When we arrived there were very few people there. We were quickly seated on the inside of the main restaurant section. Empty tables everywhere. Nice view of outside through the outside dining area. Within 5 minutes a couple was seated directly in front of us, obstructing any view, and making us feel kind of boxed in, if that makes sense. It would have been nice to separate diners as much as possible, since it wasn't very busy. There were empty tables everywhere.
Service: Really friendly and accommodating. I asked about veggies, and when we got our meals mine had more asparagus than my husband! Yummy! It was what I needed. The service is still a bit of a work in progress as the restaurant is really new. The server didn't know the answers to some questions about drinks and the entrees, but I know they'll get there.she was really friendly and anxious to help us and do a good job.
Food: Took a bit long in the kitchen, but it allowed us to enjoy the atmospher of the place. They might want to rethink their water, though. It has a really bitter aftertaste. But it did make me want something else, and the mixed berry lemonade was delicious. I added a splash of it to the water and it made the water drinkable, too! We aren't alcohol drinkers, so my husband had a virgin pinacolada. It tasted just like frozen pineapple daiquiri. Needed more coconut flavor. But it was refreshing.
I had the chicken marsala with smashed potatoes. It was so good! I quickly inhaled the whole thing. The smashed potatoes weren't really smashed, though. Just red potatoes with a teenie bit of herb and some butter on them. They need more herb and to be actually smashed, brushed with a bit of butter, and then browned, and then they would have been divine.
My husband had the pork loin with garlic mashed potatoes. The loin was delicious. Perfectly cooked, and the huckleberry jus was yum. The mashed potatoes had been over whipped so they were really starchy(shown in the photo). A proper mashed potato would have been better, with garlic of course!
For dessert we had the bread pudding which was divine. We also had the macadamia skillet. Really nutty and delicious.
All in all, a good experience and we'll go back again! I think once the kinks are worked out this place will be outstanding!
Great...
Read moreCalled ahead and came in on a Saturday night about 30 min before closing time We sat at a table in the bar for 20 min before asking a gal behind the bar for a drink menu, she handed me a training menu from the bar it was photo copies stapled together. After we were handed the training drink menu the 3 ladies working I guess behind or in the bar still did not greet or acknowledge my dinner companion nor myself. I ado not not believe all 3 ladies were in training and seemed well educated and very familiar with each other and the barstools up. We waited yet another long 10 minutes while the other 25 patrons with in eye out immediate eye sight did not seem to have any communication break down with any of the service team. I have to say I personally have experienced some of the greatest bars and restaurants in the United States George Town to San Francisco and have NEVER BEEN SO Blatantly IGNORED or dismissed as I was this evening at Edgewater. I have been a restaurant and bar consultant for several years . As a crafted mixologist I have created several signature drink menus for various restaurants in the north western United States. I am a former bar owner in a Boise Idaho and consider myself a very patient customer at any bar or restaurant I may visit. Today I traveled from Oregon in the hopes of having a nice evening with my dear friend. I am highly disappointed at service we experienced , in all my 19 years in this industry I do not think I have ever witnessed such disregard for patrons entering a venue close to closing time. Please do keep in mind we did call ahead knowing that this venue did have a 9 pm closing time listed on line, calling was to simply verify that it would not be an issue if we arrived within 30 minutes before close. I would like to visit again and I do hope that our experience will be greater than this 1st encounter. However the bar is not set far off the ground at this...
