I have picked up bread here from time to time at the Farmers Market in Seattle's University District. It is always delicious and I love how nerdy the baker's husband is about their wares "this one has a really tight crumb." Yesterday I tried to pick up a loaf of their Skagit Wheat at the farmers market but only had my phone on me and their tap to pay equipment wasn't working. They gave me a loaf anyway and told me to pay next time. In a strange coincidence I saw them the very next day at Gordon's Skagit Farm in Mount Vernon. Read moreI was in the area for a class at the King Arthur Flour bread school, and popped over here for a quick visit during a break. I'm so glad I did! They had several breads and some excellent cookies, which come in bags of 4-6 depending on the cookie. I bought the oatmeal shortbread, ginger molasses, coconut almond "bee sting", and coffee toffee sandwich cookies. All were great but my favorite by far was the coffee toffee. Yum! And the breads looked so good I bought some even though I had bread from the baking class waiting for me back at the school. It's a walk-up window in a building next to Cairnspring Mills who supplies the bakery's flour, in the middle of the Skagit Valley farmlands where the local wheat is grown. In other words, the baker at Water Tank is making breads and cookies and things right at the source.
I loved the seed bread, the parmesan garlic rolls, and the chocolate shortbread cookies- the cookies are crispy but not heavy and have a great dark cocoa flavor. Great...
