Ok, people- I'll tell you the truth.
My first impression was a pleasant one. I found the restaurant to be warm upon entering, and I made note of the cosy atmosphere and rustic decor. Upon entering the establishment, I quickly noticed that there was no staff to greet me and there was no one behind the register. I had to look through the kitchen window and ask to be helped by an employee that I caught eating with they're hands in the middle of the food prep area. To her credit, she did wash her hands after eating and before coming around to ring me up. Upon paying for my order, I was surprised by the almost $30 pizza ( I was told $23 over the phone) and $10 wings bringing my total over $40. When I mentioned that the pizza was supposed to be $23 she explained that the extra topping I had ordered on half my pizza and the marinara sauce I asked for on the side brought my pizza alone to over $29. I ordered a large margarita pizza with jalapeños on half. I also ordered wings. The pizza was so completely covered in basil, to the point that I was forced to assumed that they must have put a handful of basil on each pizza slice. When I tried to remove some of the basil, in order to make my food edible, I quickly realized that there was very little cheese or other toppings once the basil was removed. I paid over $40 for the meal and the pizza alone accounted for over $29 before tax. I've never paid thirty dollars for a pizza before, and I was insulted to find that after paying that price that it was barley edible. The overwhelming amount of basil created such a strong flavor that I could not taste anything else whatsoever. I couldn't taste the cheese, I couldn't even tase the jalapeños I had added for flavor, because the basil was they're primary topping on the pizza and it drowned out any flavor that you would typically expect to enjoy when you eat pizza. The wings are so- so and the price for them I felt was fair at $10. If I had only orders the wings, I would have left not having a memorable experience one way or the other. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I have eaten there before, and have had mediocre experiences. I found the Combo pizza heavy, overloaded with toppings and it created a soggy floppy crust that couldn't support its own weight. I have tried the Mexican pizza, it's flavor was good, but again I experienced the same soggy floppy problem as with the combo pizza. I also have tried the jalepeno popper pizza. It was fantastic the first time I tried it. The next time I went back and ordered it again, it was an epic fail. Another flop. I was disappointed. I quickly realized that each person in there makes the pizza a little differently. There is no consistency. If you go in in and have a good pizza once, you may eat there several more times and have poor experiences, depending on who is baking that day. Because of that, I only eat here in a pinch, when I'm sick in the winter because it is one of, if not the only place to eat in this town. Your welcome to eat here and have an overpriced, mediocre experience for yourself. However, if you would like to avoid a disappointing experience, take my advice and pass up buffalo chips. Any time I have an option, I drive 10 miles, well past buffalo chips, all the way to the next town of chester to eat at the pizza factory. Where the service is friendly and the food is always,...
Read moreHad a not good experience on Aug. 2 after years of enjoying great pizza here. I called to order pizza and couldn't get an answer on the phone, then tried again multiple times. After driving there, I was surprised to see about 10+ employees happily chatting and working, all of them with no masks on. A total ignorance of the CA statewide public health order. Unfortunately it doesn’t matter how privately owned this pizza place is, they still need to follow the public health orders as they are regulated by county health for serving the public. There have been continuous COVID19 outbreaks at both HDSP and CCC prison facilities just nearby in Susanville, and there’s plenty of exposed prison staff that live in Westwood and come in to get pizza. But after noticing this, I still waited at the register for about 5 minutes while the cashier (skinnier girl with tattoos) was talking back and forth with the cooks and another customer that had already ordered. I guess I was just invisible standing there waiting for her. Anyway I then walked out and took my $70 of business to Pizza Factory in Chester where I got pretty excellent service by friendly masked employees. Disappointed in Buffalo Chips to say the least, they used to be the good little hometown...
Read moreI decided to give buffalo chips a try because they've got a good reputation in the area and I went there a few years ago. Admittedly the pizza isn't bad(not any better than the Pizza Factory in Chester) but I won't be back. After I got my pizza an employee behind the counter started talking to a customer and saying how they don't believe in Covid-19(over 150,000 dead people might say differently if you ask me). That's when I noticed not a single food handler there had a mask on. I don't think they had gloves on either. If they don't believe in covid how about other viruses or germs? Did they even wash their hands? I wouldn't be surprised to find out they aren't vaccinated either. I'm ashamed to say I was starving and took the pizza however I won't be back even after the pandemic ends. Buffalo chips used to be the best thing about Westwood but it seems they've screwed that up in their little backwater too.
Edit: it seems I'm not there only one who has recently seen the employees of buffalo chips breaking the law by not following covid protocols. How sad and scary for all the vulnerable people...
