Just recently made another trip to try and give this steakhouse another chance, this time booking weeks in advance for 4 for the "NEW YEARS DINNER'. They sent a flyer via email (attached to this review of what they were gonna do). I was stoked and ready to give them another chance, looks like they were gonna step up. But soon as i got my reminder call a week prior, already i had doubts as the host, was very rude and had attitude asking me about my reservation and if i am still keeping it, i said yes, and yet again got attitude in response, than a hang up. Pick up the enthusiasm, because talking to customers with attitude, definitely does not make them feel like they are welcome. Anywho, I was over that phone call, maybe they were just having a bad day. The day finally came for the reservation, we arrived 5 minutes early, yet again one of the sturdiest in the front had attitude again, one was trying to be apologetic and pleasant. ( i wanna say the rude one was ashley). Right of the gate all 4 of us were mad becuase we were told you only have 90 minutes from the time you order not even from the time we get our food, to finish all drinks and food. Definitely never had any of these issues at any other steak house. What was the point in making RESERVATIONS AHEAD OF TIME!. Nonetheless, no matter how mad and uncomfortable we were, we stayed and got our table, but already we felt even more uncomfortable as we saw one lady look at her watch as soon as we sat on our table and didn't even order yet. Putting a timer and rushing customers is highly rude and not welcoming at all. If it couldn't get any worse, they changed their menu from what was advertised and didn't bother to inform customers who reserved ahead of time. The steak was smaller (6 oz migon compared to the advertised 16oz new york strip), literally, all the items changed from what was advertised. We were all shocked and unhappy at this moment, and yet again I noticed the same person looking at our table and several other tables while looking at her watch, as if things weren't bad and disappointing, being watched like a hawk was uncomfortable and really rude. We felt so rush, each course took 25+ plus to come out, when each course came out we couldn't even enjoy each one, as we felt rushed as the lady came around again looking at her watch. With every course, we rushed to eating fearing we reached out time limit. I have never experienced such poor dining experience in my life than this, and it's sad becuase the waiters were doing a good job, but i overheard many tables disappointed not only with the time limits but with the menu change, so i definitely feel the waiters were not getting there usual tips, being customers were being pushed out like it was a fast food drive through. If i had the option of giving 0 stars in a heartbeat I will, however i will I be coming back to this steak house along with the other 3 guest with me, instead we will be going to prime cut steak house or viejas steak grove, somewhere we can be comfortable, even on a big event and not be rushed and forced out like a fast food drive through, definitely where they have better host welcoming you with smiles and not attitude. WORK ON YOUR HOST SKILLS, STOP SENDING FALSE MENUS AND TRICKING CUSTOMERS, INFORM CUSTOMERS OF ANY CHANGES AND TIME LIMITS AHEAD OF TIME.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND PRIME STEAKHOUSE AND VIEJAS GROVE STEAK, NEVER HAD SUCH ISSUES WITH THESE STEAK HOUSES. FOR THOSE READING, SAD BECAUSE THE STEAK ARE DRY AGED AND GOOD BUT THE COOKS ARE 50/50 SOMETIMES YOU GET IT HOW YOU WANT IT SOMETIMES THEY MESS IT UP, GO TO BULL & BOURBON ON...
Read moreI've eaten here several times now, and it's not always a good experience. During my recent dining here, I ordered a 10oz filet, and ordered it prepared "medium rare." However, when it arrived and I cut into the end for my first bite, I noticed it was over cooked to medium well. I politely spoke with our waiter and pointed this out to him. To my surprise, the waiter picked up my plate, then picked up my fork and moved the steak around on the plate to take a closer look at it. The waiter then replied that he believed it was "medium rare," and suggested that perhaps it was just the dim lighting in the restaurant confusing me. Both me and my date told him it was cooked medium well. The waiter said he would send it back and have a new steak cooked. About 5 minutes later, the waiter returned with the same steak cut in half and said, "the cook cut your steak in half and said it's medium rare." First of all I was appalled that he brought the same steak back, cut in half, and wanted to argue with me. On top of that, who knows who was touching my food that they had cut in half to inspect. When I told him I wanted a new steak, he said he would take it back and get me a new steak. About 5 minutes after that, the manager came over to my table and said he had heard there was a problem with my meal. When I told him my steak was over cooked, the manager said he saw the steak in the kitchen cut in half and he too began arguing with me saying he thought it was "medium rare." It is noted however that even though both the waiter and manager had separately argued with me, both were polite and professional. But, neither should have been arguing with a customer over how their steak was cooked. So again, both me and my date told him it was cooked medium well and not medium rare as ordered, as it had a dark medium gray colored center with just a hint of pink in the center, (about 2mm's worth). The manager then said he would have the kitchen cook me a new steak. However at that point, and fearing I'd get a steak with spit or something worse in it, I decided to cancel my steak order altogether. I feel their current chef, or at least that particular chef that night had no idea of what medium rare looks like, because it was way, WAY over cooked. And if I'm paying $60 just for the meat portion of my meal, that steak should be...
Read moreAs soon as you walk in, you’re greeted by the bar lined with an impressive bourbon selection. I was promptly welcomed by the lovely hostess, checked in, and seated right away. A reservation is definitely recommended. Once seated, Emily—my server and also one of the bartenders—came over to take my drink order. She immediately noticed I had an outdated half-price bourbon list, brought me an updated one, and suggested High West Campfire. Great choice. Her knowledge of bourbon is extensive, which is impressive, especially for California. John soon brought out a warm loaf of bread with incredible house-made butter infused with honey and orange. He came by several times throughout my meal, refilling water and checking on me as well as other guests, providing outstanding service. I ordered the prime rib, and while waiting I had a perfect view of Chef Gem carefully inspecting each plate before it left the kitchen—his attention to detail ensured everything was beautifully presented. When my meal arrived, Emily checked in right away to make sure everything was to my liking. The prime rib was cooked to perfection—absolutely delicious. Although I was stuffed, John brought me the dessert menu. I couldn’t resist ordering the chocolate cake to go. WOW—amazing. Overall, Bourbon & Bull has been the best dining experience I’ve had during my three weeks in San Diego. The service, food, and atmosphere were all top-notch. I highly recommend making a reservation and asking for Emily—she’s a true superstar. Before I left, Jared the manager even stopped by to ensure everything met my expectations. I told them they went above and...
