Calico House Restaurant — Restaurant in California

The Chicken Dinner was horrible. I like the look and feel of the restaurant. Certainly gave the feeling that we would receive a quality home cooked meal. (Not the case). We Both had the fried chicken dinners. The chicken breast were large and steaming hot with almost too crispy crust. The problem is both of our chicken (4 pieces total) were completely frozen in the center. Completely!! But strangly it was not raw. The only way this is possible is to fry previously cooked frozen chicken. The server did not deny the issue and had the cook make us more, of which came out fried way too long to the point where is was inedible.

Also the mashed potatoes was made from powder potatoes and the corn was very basic straight out the can or frozen corn, plus a plain store brought dinner roll. The only item we enjoyed was the Lemonade or tea There is a large back patio to eat and a nice front porch to lounge and have a beer. The server was very kind and tried to be understanding. Came in at 4:23 in the afternoon and was told the kitchen closes at 4:30 and they would only serve us drinks. Come to find out from other people in town that they also were turned away but even earlier.

Also, on the government website they mentioned that they do old menu items that would have been served in the 1880s. They serve nothing that is mentioned on the government website. See the attached picture. Even with them closing the kitchen, they wouldn't even offer us to have a $7 peanut butter and jelly. Definitely do not come here and waste your time

But on a positive note, the lady that works at the saloon two doors down is a gem and will make you hot dogs until the very last at 5:00 closing time. Also, she has a horse sanctuary so please donate her! Her and her blind horse is also in a Guinness book of...

Very frustrated. We came here because their menu listed several different items available that all sounded delicious.arrive at the place to find they have an Extremely watered down menu of absolute basic food. No indication that this was the case on their website. They are apparently still running their covid menu for 3 years and still have not updated the website to reflect this. Spoke to an employee who stated the owner refuses to fix this and they have to constantly explain this to patrons who come in disappointed. Didn't even try the food because we were so upset, left and went elsewhere after...
