If you're looking for a fantastic dining experience in Carmichael, CA, look no further than El Papagayo. This restaurant offers a unique and flavorful menu that is sure to impress even the most discerning palate. One of the standout features of this restaurant is their amazing manager, Kevin. He truly goes above and beyond to ensure that every guest has a memorable and enjoyable dining experience. His attention to detail and friendly demeanor make dining at El Papagayo a true pleasure. As for the food itself, I highly recommend trying the soup and salad options. Both were absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. The soup had a rich and savory flavor, while the salad was fresh and crisp with a variety of tasty toppings. Overall, I cannot recommend El Papagayo enough. With its amazing manager, friendly staff, and delicious menu options, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience in Carmichael.

SUPPORT FAMILY OWNED LOCAL BUSINESSES! I appreciate Filipino cuisine when they have vegan options. For vegans, they have a designated vegan kitchen so there is no cross contamination. You walk in, grab menus, pick a table, and when you’re ready to order you walk up to the bar. Several tvs playing the games as we waited for our meal. We ordered the pancit walabok (vegan), smoked sisig spareribs, fries, & Kyle’s rice (garlic rice). He ordered the new old fashioned and they didn’t spare the alcohol. I’ve never liked pancit palabok but this one, was the best I’ve had. He devoured the sisig. Quality through and through. Now if you start off with their restaurant name, take a look at their menu names, they have a twist of humor. lol, palo means “spanking”, my pancit “wala”bok (nothing). It’s a punny place, great food, thoughtfulness played in every aspect, terrific, welcoming service. This will be part of our go to rotation.

My partner suggested this place from a friend so I went there with my family. ***The menu is new and is no longer Mexican food***. It's more Filipino - American Fusion. We had Talib Kawali, Cauliflower Sisig, Palo Stix, Pancit Walabok, the Fili-bisteak, cheesy fries, and the Sisig Spareribs. For Dessert we had Ube Cheesecake, Coffee Cheesecake, and the Iced Banana Pudding with Vanilla Wafers. The dinner was very good! I think they hit the fusion concept well though the dishes are a little small and probably not Filipino enough. I think it clashed with the look of the restaurant which feels somewhat casual (you order from the bar). Dessert was alright. The Ube Cheesecake was amazing. More mixed reviews on the Coffee Cheesecake and the Ice Banana Pudding. The later looks beautiful but they didn't burn off enough rum when making it. It's a new dish though and it didn't take away from the rest of the experience. 9/10.

Best pozole in Sacramento and under ten bucks! I loooove this place! I've been there 3x and every time the food has been just like Mom used to make. The pozole has thick chunks of pork that falls apart, so good! They have a help yourself chip and salsa bar with several red and green salsa options, the chips are fresh and perfectly lightly salted. There is a full bar, I have only had the margaritas, you can get them blended, many places will only serve on the rocks.

Next time I go I'll try the quinoa burger. They have an extensive vegan menu and everything that I see come out of the kitchen looks amazing but I haven't tried the vegan options yet. The owner Rosalinda is a sweet little lady that takes a daily roll in the operations and cooking. She has a sincere desire to deliver healthy Mexican meals and spends much time experimenting to come up with new options. She welcomes the public feedback and is happy to talk to you about her cooking technique or her next vegan idea. She is currently working on a vegan torta.

Lastly, plenty of on-site parking, the staff has always been attentive and helpful. I've literally been to every single Mexican restaurant in the area and this is my favorite. Do yourself a favor and...

How is this place still in business?! Many, many menu items are frozen then cooked in the microwave. Anyone giving this place a good rating doesn't know about Mexican food. For those people, there's a Taco Bell just down the road. For those folks who like good authentic Mexican food, try Rey Azteca's just around the corner on Fair Oaks and Kenneth.

[4 years ago review, 2015] Grand expectations since many nice reviews. YET, big disappointment!! Their web site says "free beer Wednesday's" (with purchase of a meal; one meal= one beer). BAIT AND SWITCH!! We were told that they don't do that anymore??! Why is it on your website then, I ask. "...owner too lazy to remove it..." Really?! Three of us had dinner there. Two ordered the chile relleno dinner which arrived at our table LESS THAN LUKE WARM. We were the only customers in the restaurant at that time. (4:30pm) Are their chill rellenos frozen then microwaved? It appears so. My verde pork was good. Overall, 1 star. Not recommended. No second chances. Lost our trust. (Still haven't gone...

PLEASE READ ENTIRELY.. I am writing this with a very heavy heart; I had been going here for 9+ years then the owners sold and retired just prior to Cinco de Mayo 2021. Here it is almost three months later and the new owners finally reopened.. The food was pretty much the same; my husband thought it was slightly better..BUT it was 45% higher than the previous menu prices..Our bill was $38 after tip, without any drinks..Plus it's not as though you get table service; you order at a counter and then they bring it to you.

We ordered exactly the same thing as always, so we could rate it against what we were used to..a 2 cheese enchilada dinner with rice and beans and a bean cheese burrito..Perhaps that was the issue..They didn't have combo plates on the menu, so essentially everything had to be ordered ala carte..What Mexican restaurant doesn't have a 2 item dinner on the menu? I believe this will be our last time here, since there are other options, just not as...
