Taiko Sushi — Restaurant in California

Pretty disappointed with the poke bowl that I had for dinner tonight. I’ve enjoyed poke from here in the past, perhaps a year or so ago, but it no longer meets the same quality that I remembered.

The fish was cubed extremely lazily, in much larger pieces than in traditional, high quality poke. I got the ahi tuna and the salmon, and neither had the texture that I expect from a quality poke restaurant.

I ordered my poke with white rice and the spicy soy sauce, but I was served poke on sushi rice and without any sauce! On top of that, the sushi rice was either undercooked or old, because it was extremely crunchy. It was also very over seasoned with mirin/rice vinegar and overwhelmed the flavor of the entire bowl. When I asked to have sauce brought on the side, it didn’t even taste like the spicy soy I’ve had before, it tasted like their house ponzu (which is very sour, not what I wanted).

I unfortunately have come to the conclusion that I shouldn’t order poke from here anymore. This is an underwhelming sushi place, with somewhat okay bento boxes, and… acceptable ramen. (Those are the only items I have tried, I can’t speak for the rice bowls or sides). Save yourself the disappointment and order a sushi roll instead, I’m pretty sure they just shouldn’t be trying to serve poke. Or, honestly, if you’re really looking for good sushi, skip this place entirely and go to Silver Sake just down the street, it’s a million times better. I would only choose Taiko over Silver Sake if I wanted soup or...

This restaurant has been my sashimi place to go . The best fresh fish, especially, the tuna and poke bowls. I took so many guests here and have gotten so many nearby neighbors hooked . The chef was not only the best creator with a simple piece of raw fish but a talented artist in food preparation. Prior to the COVID restrictions I came with friends every Sunday for lunch and at least one evening a week. We never ordered we just told him to bring us his choice. Usually we each had 4-5 dishes until we could eat no more. I have not been here since January . Today, I finally came. I was sad to hear, the creative Chef is long gone. Why I wondered. He often told us how much he loved the work. Well , I ordered 4 creative Chef’s choice sashimi to go. I said no wasabi or ginger but each with a different fish . I expected at least something similar to what I was used to. I will say no more but attach a picture of what I found when I opened the box at home . It speaks for itself . It looks horrible it smelled horrible and the 31/2 slices of salmon and tuna were so salty it was hard to swallow. There was a package of soy sauce that I did not open. Friday, 6/20/2025 - Went to eat at Taiko Sushi because my little one wanted to try it. Address is 6241 Fair Oaks Blvd, Ste F, Carmichael, CA 95608. When we walked in, there were several tables in there and a Sushi bar. I saw two people at the bar eating. A large table full of people enjoying their foods. Upon arrival....

Pros

1. this is one large room with another restaurant right next to it and a bar behind it. When arrived, we just sat ourselves at a table. There was no sign for us to wait to be seated.
2. server was very nice.
3. we got our water quick. Water tasted good.
4. Sushi and bento box was good. Sauces were very salty. Chicken katsu was moist and good.
5. server paid attention to the tables with customers and made sure to bring the tab as soon as they were done eating.
6. as I mentioned, it's one large room with several businesses inside there is a bathroom in the back. You have to walk past the bar to get to the bathroom.
7. lots of parking. Easy to find parking.
8. Happy Hour is M - F, 4-6pm

Cons

1. it is on the pricier side, but foods are good.
