I visited Hans and Harry Bakery on May 31, hoping to order a birthday cake and pick up a few baked goods. Unfortunately, both the quality of their products and the customer service have gone downhill significantly.

The store was moderately busy for a Saturday—not nearly as hectic as during the holidays—but the service felt anything but smooth. While I was checking out, my husband moved to an empty register at the other end of the room to avoid the crowd. The younger worker then asked the older worker if they were taking cake orders that day, and the older responded with obvious annoyance, like it was a huge inconvenience. The older worker noticed my husband standing by the empty register and said, “I don’t know how long it’s going to take because he’s here too to order and it’s very busy today,” all while looking at a modest line of customers. I told her he was my husband and she said “well then what do you want to order?” It felt like she was trying to discourage me from ordering a cake altogether. The more she spoke, the more negative and off-putting she became. At this point, I was barely completing the card transaction and the younger worker hadn’t bagged the purchase but the older one appeared impatient, so I told my husband to wait for the bag.

As I went to the ordering register, she suggested I order online, which I’ve done before—and that’s exactly why I was there in person this time. On a previous online order pickup, my order was never received! So, coming in person seemed like the best option, but instead, I was belittled by this one particular worker. If cake orders aren’t taken on Saturdays, they should have a clear sign about it. It just doesn’t make sense to limit services without informing customers, especially when the business is open. I should have aborted ordering altogether but my son was adamant about having this certain cake for his birthday.

As for the baked goods I bought that day: the smiley face cookie was dry and bland, the raspberry cream cake was also very dry. The birthday cake I ordered - a Belgian chocolate cake- was disappointingly dry and stale as well. I’ve ordered this cake several times before and I don’t remember it being this bad especially for the price!

Honestly, you’d be better off buying your cake at Costco. I expected so much more from Hans and Harry.

TL;DR: poor customer service, poor quality pastries, go to...

I love the bakery and all its products; but the most odd thing happened to me this morning. As I when in to purchase a couple of muffins I mentioned to the clerk that I had purchased a chocolate chip muffin last Saturday and that it somehow had cranberry in it. I requested if she could please replace it by adding one to my order free of charge. She proceeded to get the manager for approval and when she arrived she denied my request unless I had “proof”. I mentioned I was on my way on a trip to Fresno and by the time my daughter noticed something wrong we were have way there. She then asked for a receipt but I didn’t have one because I tapped the “no receipt” on the screen. Was I suppose to have saved the left over muffin for three days and bring it as proof??? She then brought the owner and she repeated the same thing the manager had said and mentioned she could “compromise” and give me a discount; that anyone could come in and say something like that just to get a free muffin. I was appalled and shocked and shared I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. She finally said if it made me happy she’ll give it to me for free to which I responded “why go through all the hassle/embarrassment of that to finally not charge me?” Also, why would you risk a bad review and loosing a customer (potentially more) who’s been coming here since ‘99 for a merely 2.50? She answered it was the “principle of it”. This definitely left a bad taste and reflects how and what ownership truly thinks of...

Had the worse service last Saturday. Wife and I went in for some pastries, we've been going here for years, which to be honest are always on point(cinnamon roll and upside down are my favs) the young lady called our number and asked what we'd like, cinnamon roll, apple turnover and 2 cookies. We watched as it took her 10 minutes to grab 4 items. It took her so long because she would stop and chat with coworkers and she was packaging each item separately instead of in one box. She finally packed the final item, the apple turnover, which she stacked top, and again doing so while talking to another coworker. Not paying attention to her surroundings, we watched as she walked into another coworker and drop part if our order on to the floor. The apple turnover which she placed in a trash bin and she walked away from the counter. After a few minutes she returns and said "I dropped the the turnover and it was our last one." You dropped it I said and she answered with a nod. She asked what else I wanted I answered just the other items will do which she placed on the counter for the cashier and just walked away. No apology from her. The cashier looked at us and said "I'm so sorry" and I really felt that she meant it which changed my 1 star rating for...

Hans & Harry's Bakery, located at 5080 Bonita Rd b2, Bonita, CA 91902, is a delightful spot for pastries, desserts, and sweet treats, but my experience came with a touch of disappointment. They’re famous for their strudel, yet I couldn’t get a slice of classic apfelstrudel in-store. To order it, I discovered you need to give 48 hours’ notice—a bit surprising for something so renowned. That said, the staff behind the counter were fantastic—friendly, efficient, and handling a line that stretched to the end of the neighboring building with ease. I brought home an assortment of goodies, including an eclair, bear claw, butter croissant, apple pastry, and their "fruit strudel." As someone Czech, I didn’t quite recognize the "fruit strudel" as strudel—it looked different from the traditional kind I know—but it was tasty nonetheless. Despite my apfelstrudel disappointment, everything else was fresh, well-made, and satisfying. Hans & Harry’s is clearly beloved, and while I hope they can make classic apfelstrudel more accessible in the future, it’s definitely worth a visit for their wide array of delicious baked goods.

This bakery has been around a long time, and he has a very big variety of sweets and pastries, also cakes, pies, muffins, Nutella pockets, cookies, some good cheesecake, and they're famous fruit strudel, they are a gnome institution in this area and where we all go to get our pastries desserts and cakes for parties every time we have one. The people working there's always smiling kind and very helpful, they have refrigerators with pre-made cakes and pies and cookies and tortes that you can take right away, there's hardly a day that they aren't busy yet when you come in just make sure you grab a number and patiently wait for your number to be called so you can take some of those goodies home. The prices are very modical they do have plenty of parking as well as handicap parking and since there's no meat that I know of any other products I would say they are also vegetarian, they do have the gluten-free option in case you have someone that is allergic to gluten. All I know they are amazing!!
