🌮 La Palapa – Where Fajitas Get Their Groove

Went to La Palapa in Los Osos for dinner, and let me tell you, they passed my ultimate Mexican-restaurant test: the Fajitas Mixtas. Shrimp, chicken, and beef all sizzling together like a mariachi band, and none of that sad, bland chicken I’ve been disappointed by elsewhere. Nope—this chicken had seasoning, flavor, and personality.

Our server Monica deserves a gold medal in multitasking. For a while, she was the ā€œLone Rangerā€ of La Palapa, handling seven tables at once with a smile and zero panic. She kept us in the loop the whole time, and honestly, I was impressed—if I tried that, I’d be crying in the walk-in cooler.

The restaurant sets the tone right at the door: ā€œWe’re not fast-food, we’re good food.ā€ (Okay, maybe not in those exact words, but that’s the vibe). And they delivered—food came out in a timely fashion, piping hot, and worth every second.

The fajitas? Huge shrimp, generous portions of meat, and perfectly cooked. In addition, a generous portion of rice and beans was included. When given the choice between soup or salad, we shared the pozole. Pro tip: if you’re cilantro-averse (or genetically wired to think it tastes like soap), skip it. I personally loved it, but my partner gave me the stink eye with every bite. More for me, so… win-win.

All in all, La Palapa nailed it AND they are a family owned business, which I love! Great food, excellent service under pressure, and fajitas that sing. I’d happily go back—especially if Monica’s working,...

My family and I visited this place by chance, we were in town and didn't know where to eat so we were some reading some reviews of local places and I did not really feel like having Mexican food so we drove to this area looking for something new and we found this place called The Sculptured Egg and what do you know! it was closed and my wife suggested this place, Well! We arrived to the reception and we were greeted very politely and were seated rather quick the waitress handed the menu and asked if we would like something to drink and so on and so forth. The whole time we were there, we didn't have to ask the waitress for anything because she was very alert and payed close attention to refills, salsa, tortillas, and everything else. As much as I hate to admit, the food was delicious and the servings were plenty, the service was excellent, the place was very clean. we had a nice view of the sunset, the restrooms were clean and parking was not a problem. I do not care much for the town but if I were in the vicinity I would absolutely drive here to enjoy this food and service again. well...

We came here for the live music at Beer on the Pier. The band (O'Donna) was great and there was plenty of room to dance. The bartenders were friendly and fast but the floor staff that we had was terrible. After 45 minutes with no server and no menus, my friend got her attention and told her how long were been waiting. She got angry and asked for it order but we had no menus. She left and we had to get menus from the other server. After another 20-minutes, we flagged her down again and ordered. She served the food but didn't bring utensils, and after another long wait u got them from the bar. The only reason we stayed was for the music and the only reason we ordered was to support the establishment for having music. Get some good staff and turn this into a 5-star. *Note: the other server was very helpful but she was working...

IMPORTANT NOTE: This place is expensive!! $32 for chicken fajitas with a $3 split-plate fee and we didn’t even get individual salads (most places give each person sharing the plate their own soup/salad when there’s a split-plate fee involved). Service was fast and friendly and the place is clean (didn’t use the bathroom, I can’t testify to bathroom cleanliness), and the fajitas were very good as was the blue cheese on our salad, but they’re getting four stars instead of five for their prices (another example- $19 for a chicken quesadilla). We’re local and have always eaten at the equally (in a different way) other delicious and WAY less expensive Mexican restaurant in town and can honestly say that La Palapa’s tourist prices are what will drive us away when choosing between the two.

We were there the first day they were open for breakfast. The menus didn’t even have prices on them. The server was very friendly and helpful. She described the meals including their prices. The food was delicious. I had a traditional bacon eggs potatoes and toast breakfast, my husband had a breakfast burrito which he enjoyed very much too. The coffee was really good, bold robust coffee with lots of flavor. They make their own delicious salsa fresh, with tomatoes purchased at the farmers market. The front door was a little bit hard to find, you have to walk down the side of the building through a little garden area. It is well worth finding the front door. I would recommend this restaurant. I have not been for dinner but the breakfast was terrific.
