Supporting small businesses is important. It's supporting the impossible, hope and dreams of your neighboor, their family, and community. Came just after 1p on a Friday. Seen a few vehicles whip up and whip out. CLEARLY A TAKE OUT concept. Packed in Styrofoam and dinners come with extra care to separate sides from main entrée (meat). Be mindful of the temp of your food as the containers and resturant setup don't allow necessarily for the dig in unless your prepared to eat in vehicle and or your delivery is timely. I am in general up for a car/truck picnic all the time. As soon as food was ready, I did just that, dug in. I opted for a veggie plate which included four sides of choice. THEY offer a variety of true vegetable sides ( I cannot speak to if any vegan, however many options for those avoiding meat or eggs, or for those who don't have restrictions). I was disappointed that none of my sides were hot, let alone warm. THE BLACK EYE PEAS (white rice comes underneath) cooked to perfection! Seasoned simply, and allowed for the flavor of the food to shine. Cabbage, it was tender and thicker stems retained a bit of texture which i like. Also the seasoning subtle, probably some butter in there. The greens weren't for my taste or flavor preference. Vinegar is common, however just wasn't there for me, also the greens were spotted black in many workouts, which turned me off. The pieces were cut well, and cooked well to retain perfect texture. Mashed potatoes with gravy. POTATOES didnot seem like homemade because sooo smooth and uniformley white. Decent flavor and gravy tasty, however as mentioned there wasn't any sufficient heat, and mashed potatoes to me ate best enjoyed hot! Spouse had 2 dinners. 2 porkchop meal (since between 1 chop and 2 was a few dollar difference) with spaghetti and macaroni and cheese. Pleasantly breaded, seasoned and cooked. Spaghetti lacked visible meat, had a decent flavor. Macaroni was disappointing, mushy and I have had better stove top, someone else might love this , didn't meet her expectations of a baked Macaroni and cheese. Also, she got jerk chicken wings dinner with dressing (cranberry) and sweet potatoes. The jerk unlike other reviews, was perfectly authenticly season, however the meat dry (kind of expected as it's jerk wings, would have preferred dark meat, however the option was unavailable) dressing grits and flavor not great. Sweet potatoes were great in texture and flavor. You go in to order expectations to wait outside. They will give you a beeper to come back in. There is not a customer restaurant. There is plenty of street parking. At about $14 a meal with no sitting or dine in, ensure your every guest is getting your best all the time. Food comes out correctly, together and at temperature standard, especially your a to go only option and serve in containers that do not allow for reheating. Also got a cobbler, it was ok. PC 11/30? SO IS THAT Peach Cobbler 11/30 as in discard by 11/30? Flavors in there, just didn't seem well blended. Would go back. Worth a 30 minute drive and $15 a plate, Food was fresh and cannot get that real food nutrients everywhere.

Ok so I've been here a few times now. I needed more than one visit to make a real review. The fried chicken, ribs, Mac and cheese, and yams were all great. I recently ordered a Monte Cristo...here's where they lost a star. The overall taste was ok, a little burnt on one half. Here was my biggest issue with the Monte Cristo. There was no ham, Swiss cheese, and jelly preserves with the sandwich. There was only turkey and American cheese smh. I'm sorry, but anybody that knows anything about this sandwich knows you can't make it without the ham and Swiss. As far as dipping sauce, strawberry jelly preserves should have been included instead of little packets of strawberry jam...takes away from the whole Monte Cristo experience. My coworker gave the catfish 👍👍 and 👎the greens (too much salt). Honestly if you want soul food then stop by you won't be disappointed...just don't try anything you wouldn't usually eat like a Monte Cristo.

Went for the first time today. Got there at 7 and started looking over the menu. The cashier interrupted us talking about the menu and very rudely asked if we were gonna order because theyre about to close. We hadnt noticed theyre changed hour sign since the menu they gave us stated they closed at 8 (Pictured). No matter we still ordered. The food was dissapointing. We ordered a catfish dinner, salmon crouqet dinners and a kids meal. The catfish fillets, greens, and yams were actually really good, everything else was pretty gross. Mac and cheese tasted like nothing but velvetta and was mushy, salmon crouqettes were super salty/overcooked and unedible. Our chocolate cake cake was split in half upon us getting it (pictures attached) and literally had a dry cornbread texture. We were hoping the food would make up for the rude service but nope. Probabky wont come back.

I had the distinct honor and privilege of visiting the location this afternoon. The restaurant is located in Gary, Indiana and appears to be family owned and operated. I decided to stop because I visit restaurants throughout the Chicago land area and Northwest Indiana and provide thorough and detailed reviews. Additionally, I love southern style cooking and comfort foods. Here is the review. The restaurant is really cozy, inviting, clean, and orderly. It had a very welcoming atmosphere. I purposely looked behind the counter to assess their kitchen and serving station. It appeared clean, sanitary, and we'll maintained. The gentleman who took my order was extremely polite, pleasant, and exhibited exceptional customer service skills. I ordered a fried chicken wing dinner with 2- soulful sides. I chose Mac n cheese, and cornbread dressing. Also, I had add ons which included a side of candied yams and collard greens. The meal came with a corn muffin. The wings were fried to perfection and seasoned appropriately. On the other hand, the sides were in need of assistance from the soulfood Goddess! The dressing was merely a combination of cornbread and chicken broth. It was simply a base, which is the foundation to create an excellent dressing. There was no signs of the 3- Amigo's ( onion, bell pepper, and celery). The Trinity is needed in majority of soulfood dishes and cuisines. Additionally, the dressing was missing the creaminess that comes from a cream of chicken, celery, onion, or mushroom needed to kick it up a notch and make it taste like it came from Grandma's hands. The Mac n cheese was gummy and noodles stuck together in a flour base that included an exceptional amount of black pepper. The yams were simply caramelized with sugar. There was an absent of butter or margarine. There was no presence of an aromatic such as a hint of vanilla or brown sugar that gives your yams a distinct, rich, and delicious flavor. Lastly, the collard greens were undercooked but had a good flavor. There was no presence of smoked turkey or pork meat particles to be found. Lastly, the corn muffins mix didn't hold due to the absence of eggs and flour. The bread crumbled and couldn't tolerate a bite without falling apart. I give the establishment 2- 🌟 🌟. I am an expert when it comes to soulfood cuisine and would love to visit other locations similar to compare and contrast. Respectfully Submitted, Corey Goodman, Your Soul...

First time ordering. Had ordered picked up. Had the wings and I ate into one of them and noticed it had a weird test. I smelled the chicken and noticed it had a spoil scent, it was not fresh. Called and the gentlemen I spoke to was really rude. I informed him I had order the wing lunch special. Very rudely he said, "well what is your ticket number, what is your name. I need more information?" I kindly gave him my ticket number and he said "Oh yea, number __. Okay, you order two fish sandwich and 5 piece chicken." I said yes but the chicken did not taste good. The chicken was not fresh. He said, "well it was just fried". I said, okay, but mine was not fresh chicken. I am still calm talking to him. He went on to say, "well our chicken is always fresh." I said but this does not smell fresh. He said, "What you want me to do!". Keeping my calm, I said I would like a refund. He said "well bring it back then." I explained that I was at work and could not leave now but will try to get there within an hour. He said okay. Their flyer states they are opened until 5:30. Well this was about 2 when we talked due to me working on the east side and could not get out within that hour, I got there at 4:30. I noted the time I arrived. They were closed.

Would I recommend this place. No. The chicken, I could not eat because it was spoiled. Not only was I turned off by the chicken, I was turned off by the rudeness of the worker which turned me totally against this establishment.

Please hire people that knows how to speak to customers on the phone and have customer service expertise. You will definitely lose your customer with his attitude and your clients. For me, I will never go there again. Yes, they got my money but this place I would not recommend nor give it a good rating if asked by anyone about their...
